Jimbo Mathus & Andrew Bird Debut These 13, The Documentary

Tune In on April 11th for Live-Stream Performance of the Album, Tickets Include Extended Director's Cut of Film

"Their voices and instruments combine effortlessly, like old friends getting together for coffee" - Pitchfork

Today, Jimbo Mathus and Andrew Bird debut their documentary on the creation of These 13, taking viewers behind the scenes of an album that the two artists, friends and former Squirrel Nut Zippers collaborators have been wanting to make together for twenty years. Directed by Tyler Manson, the short film combines candid moments with deep reflections, from their first impressions back in the summer of 1994, to the mutual admiration that stems from such disparate backgrounds: Bird coming out of Chicago, Mathus growing up in the deep South's social music scene. Mathus talks about his favorite songwriter (William Faulkner), while Bird calls Jimbo the living embodiment of the musical masters he idolized. In between performances of These 13 highlights, they offer an intimate look into the process not only of crafting timeless songs with "hooks you can hang a porch swing on" (AV Club), but of opening themselves back up and bringing out the best in each other.

Jimbo Mathus and Andrew Bird shot These 13 against the surreal backdrop of Ojai, California, and this Sunday, April 11th, they return to the location for a live-streamed concert of songs from the album. They will play the music the same way it was recorded, just the two of them and their instruments on opposite sides of a microphone. As the latest installment of his virtual Performance Now! series, Andrew Bird will also deliver sets of new songs and fan favorites.

All tickets include access to an extended director's cut of the These 13 documentary. Find more details and tune in here: https://sessionslive.com/andrewbird/tickets
