First single “Outta My Head” premieres via Parade today (11.5)

For Upstate NY siblings-turned-Harvard-grads Jocelyn & Chris Arndt, rock’s next generation has plenty of room for daring and vitality. And that’s exactly what they’ll deliver with their new studio album ‘The Fun in the Fight,’ debuting February 22. Featuring collaborations with Gov’t Mule’s Danny Louis and Vulfpeck’s Cory Wong, this 11-track collection draws on a range of inspirations, from Jimmy Page to Pat Benatar to Nina Simone. As Jocelyn & Chris put it, “this is our love letter to classic rock.” But this album is more than just an ode to the past: it’s an eclectic blend of nuances anchored with the infectious grooves, soul, and raw emotion that continues to set these siblings apart.

‘The Fun in the Fight’ showcases Jocelyn as an intense vocalist who has been praised by press as “[possessing] an incredible power, depth, tone, range, and control — a baffling set of skills.” Chris is a guitarist evoking “Jimmy Page and Stevie Ray Vaughan, using these legends as a stepping stone to play blues-rock his own way.” Lead-track “Witness” serves as the album’s dedication and testifies to the enduring power of classic-rock greats. The stomp beat-driven leadoff single “Outta My Head” explores the fine line between attraction vs. fixation and reality vs. very warped expectations, while “Things I’ll Never Know” is about how love can find you regardless of your imperfections and crippling self-doubts. On the all-out, funk-infused jam “Be That as It May,” Chris and Vulfpeck’s Cory Wong trade riffs with Gov’t Mule’s Danny Louis on Hammond Organ. It’s a celebration of creativity and letting go of criticism, leading perfectly into “Original,” a response to the common cliché that “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”: art isn’t about doing what’s proven to work, but taking risks and confronting norms. The album’s 7 additional tracks also contribute uniquely; the common thread is the Arndt’s rare affinity for passionate storytelling and raw emotion.

Jocelyn & Chris Arndt have been musical collaborators since childhood. Chris began playing guitar soon after Jocelyn started taking piano lessons. ‘The Fun in the Fight’ is their first album since graduating from Harvard University — Jocelyn in 2017, Chris this year. For the past 5 years, they’ve balanced college with an aggressive recording and touring schedule, releasing 2 EPs, 2 full-length studio albums, and a full-length live album and performing coast to coast, with stops at The Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, Mountain Jam, CMJ, and Milwaukee Summerfest, as well as hallowed stages including The Birchmere, The Viper Room, and The Bitter End.
