Junius Meyvant Brings "Full And Intricate" (WXPN) Live Show Across The Borders For Rare U.S. Run

Performs "Ain't Gonna Let You Drown" Off Upcoming EP Rearview Paradise In North America For The First Time

Junius Meyvant brought his "soul-stirring" (NPR), "guaranteed rapturous" (Rolling Stone) full-band to the United States last week for a limited run across the East Coast. The native of Iceland's remote Westman Islands did not disappoint, with WXPN describing his six-piece live band as "melding together flawlessly," while NPR Music's All Songs Considered highlighted the performance on Twitter, saying they were "happy he’s come stateside with his big band." Over five days, the band performed in DC, Philadelphia and Brooklyn's Baby's All Right, while also appearing at Non-COMM 2019 and taping their U.S. television debut. He'll return to the U.S. in August around an appearance at THING Festival in Port Townsend, WA alongside Jeff Tweedy, Kurt Vile and more.

A particular highlight of this trip was Junius performing "Ain't Gonna Let You Drown" off of his upcoming EP Rearview Paradise (August 9 / Glassnote Records), playing the soulful ballad to U.S. audiences for the very first time. Junius released the track a week prior, with PopMatters noting that "listening to the soulful vocals, heartfelt organ lines, mournful horns, and fat rhythm lines, one might think it originated in the American South during the heyday of Stax/Volt." Rearview Paradise follows up Junius' Glassnote Records debut LP Across The Borders, which was released in January.
