Kalie Shorr Releases New EP My Type
New Single “When In Rome”“One of the very best of the post-Avril generation of alt-pop singers"
–Variety
Friday, August 1st - After a three year hiatus, gold-certified songwriter, critically acclaimed artist and Webby-nominated podcast host Kalie Shorr returns with her new EP My Type — a fearless six-track EP that plays like a diary entry scrawled in eyeliner and distortion. Chaotic, confessional, and cathartic, My Type channels the fierce, unfiltered energy of early-2000s alt-rock icons like Avril Lavigne, Liz Phair, and Alanis Morissette— but with a razor-sharp, modern edge all her own. It marks a bold new chapter in Kalie’s evolution as both a songwriter and producer.
Listen to My Type HERE.
Leading the project is the emotionally layered focus track “When In Rome” — a bittersweet anthem that captures the ache of heartbreak in one of the world’s most romantic cities. Written by Kalie Shorr, Katie MAC, and Scott Thomas Robinson, and produced by wilson, Kalie Shorr, Stacy Glen Jones, and Katie MAC, the song blends introspective lyricism with an alt-pop pulse, while nodding to Kalie’s country roots.
“After that same breakup, I went on a trip with my best friends to Italy and had so much fun,” Kalie shares. “But I kept thinking about how we had always talked about going there together. It’s a place full of so much romance and adventure, and it was really bittersweet being there with a broken heart. I got this idea on a train to Florence and wrote it as soon as I got home. I wrote the guitar part and it felt like it perfectly encapsulated how I felt.”
Across My Type, Kalie trades blame for brutal honesty, turning the mirror inward to dissect her own emotional patterns with tongue-in-cheek wit and piercing vulnerability. It’s an anthem collection for the emotionally self-aware and proudly messy — tailor-made for fans of Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan – with standout tracks like the fiery title track “My Type,” the fan-favorite “Man In Your Songs” (a flip on an ex’s radio hit about her), and “Choke,” a Nine Inch Nails–inspired confrontation of avoidant attachment layered with a haunting sarangi sample. Recorded between Nashville, Los Angeles, and Kalie’s own bedroom, My Type is her most hands-on project to date. She’s credited as both producer and engineer on half the record, playing ten different instruments throughout. The dynamic production roster includes John Samuel, Nydge (Bishop Briggs, Mothica), Stacy Jones (Miley Cyrus, American Hi-Fi), Scott Thomas Robinson (Demi Lovato), wilson (GAYLE), Robbie Lamond, Katie MAC, and David "Messy" Mescon (Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj).
Earlier this year, Kalie debuted single “My Type” on KTLA’s “Road To Pride” segment, offering a sneak peek of her Outloud Festival performance in Los Angeles. Backed by her all-female band, Kalie delivered an emotionally charged set as part of the festival’s Pride Month lineup–playing songs from the EP as well as previewing unreleased songs for the very first time. She also took the stage at Ty Herndon's Annual Concert For Love & Acceptance in Nashville, TN, alongside Dasha, David Archuleta, Brooke Eden, Lindsay Ell, Sam Williams, and more.
A celebrated multi-hyphenate and consistently viral internet sensation, Kalie continues to earn praise for her emotional depth and authenticity, with features in People,Teen Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Variety, Elle, and more. In addition to her own music, she is also a sought-after songwriter, penning tracks with All Time Low, JORDY, Mickey Guyton, Miki Ratsula, and the Gold-certified single “People I Don’t Like” by fellow alt-pop artist, Upsahl.
