Friday, May 30 - Critically acclaimed artist, gold-certified songwriter, and Webby-nominated podcast host Kalie Shorr returns today with her electrifying new single, “My Type”, out now. Following the release of her lead single “Unkiss” —a nostalgic look at love gone wrong — “My Type” sets the tone as the title track for her new EP, arriving Friday, August 1.

Listen to “My Type” HERE.

Produced by John Samuel, “My Type” is Kalie’s first original release to openly embrace her queerness – a fiery, confessional anthem that explores the thrill and fallout of chasing emotionally unavailable partners. With biting honesty, she flips the heartbreak narrative, owning her patterns and reveling in the beauty of self-awareness.

Originally written in 2017, the track was shelved after Kalie was pressured to remain closeted and change the lyrics. After relocating to Los Angeles and coming out publicly, Kalie reclaimed the song, restoring its original pronouns and previewing an early version on social media during Pride 2023. Now fully realized, “My Type” is a centerpiece of her live shows, serving as a bold declaration of queer joy, creative freedom, and hard-won identity.

“This song is an anthem for anyone who is drawn to people who are a little toxic for them,” says Kalie. “All of the girls and guys I’ve dated have something in common, and it’s that streak of individuality that is both their biggest strength and their biggest weakness. This is the title track for the EP because all of these songs are the consequences of me continuing to chase “My Type”. It’s also just one isolated layer of the whole album, which covers everything from mental health to leaving the evangelical church, but I thought starting on a (somewhat) lighter note would be a good way to lead into a bigger project that fully tells my story.”

Kalie’s forthcoming EP, My Typemarks a powerful return after a three-year hiatus. A journal entry wrapped in distortion — messy, gritty, honest and cathartic – it channelsearly-2000s alt-rock icons like Avril Lavigne, Liz Phair, and Alanis Morissette. After years of navigating public heartbreaks, private chaos, and the push-pull of toxic relationships, Kalie offers a brutally self-aware look into her own romantic patterns, and a middle finger to the idea that personal growth must be graceful. Rather than recounting breakups, she interrogates her own red flags and emotional reflexes with her signature shout-along hooks and razor-sharp wit – making My Type a no-brainer addition to the playlists of Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan fans.

Recorded across Nashville and Los Angeles, as well as several all-nighters by Kalie herself in her bedroom, the EP captures her evolution from country breakout to alt-pop disruptor. For the first time, Kalie takes a hands-on role in production, credited as a producer and engineer on three of the six tracks, and plays ten different instruments throughout. In addition to production by John Samuel, Nydge (Bishop Briggs, Mothica, Snow Wife), Stacy Jones (Miley Cyrus, American Hi-Fi, Letters to Cleo), Scott Thomas Robinson (Demi Lovato, Sabrina Carpenter), wilson (GAYLE, Emily Vaughn, Katie MAC), Robbie Lamond (Ellie Goulding, Olly Murs), Katie MAC (Brooke Alexx, John Harvie) andDavid "Messy" Mescon (Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Megan Maroney). The EP features standout tracks such as unreleased fan-favorite “Man In Your Songs,” which flips the script on an ex’s radio hit about Kalie. “When In Rome” offers a sentimental nod to her country roots without sacrificing the alt-pop edge she’s been building since her 2021 album I Got Here By Accident, produced by rock legend Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Taylor Swift, Panic! At the Disco). Another stand out, “Choke,” inspired by Nine Inch Nails and layered with a haunting sarangi sample, confronts avoidant attachment with searing intensity.

Kalie recently debuted single “My Type” on KTLA’s “Road To Pride” segment, offering a sneak peek of what fans can expect from her Outloud Festival performance in Los Angeles this Saturday, May 31. Backed by her all-female band, Kalie will deliver an emotionally charged set as part of the festival’s Pride Month lineup–playing songs from the EP as well as previewing unreleased songs for the very first time. She’ll also take the stage at Ty Herndon's Annual Concert For Love & Acceptance on June 2nd iNashville, TN, alongside Dasha, David Archuleta, Brooke Eden, Lindsay Ell, Sam Williams, and more.

Born and raised in Portland, Maine, Kalie began performing in church choirs and rock bands before breaking through in Nashville’s country scene. After being discovered at 16 years old by Perez Hilton for her viral cover of “Friday” by Rebecca Black (who is also on the lineup for Outloud), she opened for the Backstreet Boys and performed for Kim Kardashian at her birthday party while still in high school. A few short years later, she made an immediate impact in Nashville with her debut single “Fight Like a Girl” (a SiriusXM Highway Find) and was named a CMT Next Women of Country artist. She’s played the Grand Ole Opry over 20 times, released her debut album Open Book (named one of the New York Times’ Top 10 Albums of the Year), and shared the stage with legends spanning all genres, including Stevie NicksLeAnn Rimes, and an international tour with pop-punk icons All Time Low.

After losing her sister to an accidental fentanyl overdose, Kalie emerged as a powerful advocate for those affected by the opioid crisis, with a focus on distributing and legalizing harm reduction resources, leading to appearances on Fox News, Wall Street Journal’s “The Journal” podcast, and collaborations with End.Overdose to distribute Narcan and test strips at her shows. Her viral series How I Got Unfamous—a darkly funny, deeply candid look at life after industry hype–and the journey back to success—has amassed more than 2 million views and connected with fans for its raw, unflinching honesty.

A celebrated multi-hyphenate and consistently viral internet sensation, Kalie continues to earn praise for her emotional depth and authenticity, with features in People,Teen VogueCosmopolitanVarietyElle, and more. In addition to her own music, she is also a sought-after songwriter, penning tracks with All Time LowJORDYMickey GuytonMiki Ratsula, and the Gold-certified single “People I Don’t Like” by fellow alt-pop artist, Upsahl.
