Kate Nash Announces New Album Cailín Out January 22 On Kill Rock Stars
Unveils New Single & Video “Spilt Milk”
Wednesday, September 16 – Platinum-selling recording artist Kate Nash announces details of her new album Cailín, a love letter to her Irish heritage due out January 22, 2027 via iconic label Kill Rock Stars. Cailín is available now to pre-order here.
Cailín's leading single, which was premiered by Huw Stephens on BBC 6 Music, "Spilt Milk" takes a sideways look at reproductive rights that are being eroded for women and minority groups. "Spilt Milk," like a lot of Kate's music, does not shy away from important yet difficult subjects. “Spilt Milk was initially written about abortion law in Ireland before they repealed the 8th (which only happened in 2018),” Kate explains. “It’s about not having control over your own body, not being listened to and feeling like the powers that be are getting bigger, scarier and more crushing. With the overturning of Roe v Wade and women’s sexual health rights being rolled back in the US this song feels pertinent to today. The song questions why the female voice is so ignored and why we’d be expected to accept this.”
Its metaphors, paired with visceral imagery and an intense, punk sound, make the track impossible to ignore. The video for the single was directed by Tom Beard.

Eleven years in the making, Kate Nash’s sixth studio album Cailín was produced by KoOoLkOjAk and recorded on the West Coast of Ireland at Stiúideo Cuan, under the watchful eye of pioneering trad musician Charlie Lennon. Cailín is a raw, raucous album combining traditional Irish sounds with punk energy, nods to hip hop production and Nash’s knack for a killer hook.
Nash holds dual nationality, with her mother born in Dublin, and grew up in an Irish community in North Harrow. When visiting her mother's "loving, vibrant Irish family" in Ireland every summer, she found that music infused the fabric of life in a way that felt natural and instinctive. Marrying punk protest songs with a joyful celebration of trad music, Cailín explores themes of family, forgiveness, love, colonialism, inequality, religion, and internalised shame, drawing on the rich texture of Irish folklore and mythology.
Speaking on the album Nash says: “All my earliest musical memories were in Ireland: live music in the pub, going to Sharon Shannon gigs, seeing the best accordion player you’ve ever seen and it’s a bored-looking eight-year-old boy in a puffer jacket. There’s a natural respect for musicians as it’s embedded into the fabric of everyday life.”
“Split Milk" follows Nash's earlier 2026 release, a cover of Sinead O'Connor's "Famine," which will also appear on Cailín. The song calls on listeners to educate themselves about Britain's role in An Gorta Mór, also known as the Great Hunger. Nash is open about her English heritage however, in making this album, she spent a lot of time exploring her Irish roots, educating herself on a history that England has largely failed to address. She says: “The English don’t know their history. I’m English too – I’m saying, this has not been taught to me. We have ignorance and we need to understand things, to give ourselves context.”
The record captures the spontaneous, collaborative spirit of impromptu pub performances, and Nash’s clear enthusiasm for live music is evident. From Uilleann pipes to claps and flutes, Nash’s Irish heritage shines through. Contributors including Niamh Dunne, Lottie Cullen, Aimée Farrell Courtney and Biird’s Lisa Canny play fiddles, flutes, the bodhrán, harp & banjo and Nash herself plays the tin whistle – the first instrument she learnt. “God bless my parents for putting up with it”, she says.

Iconic, trailblazing and fiercely her own person, Kate Nash is an artist for all time. Following a sold-out show at London’s Roundhouse, plus performances at Ireland’s Fleadh, All Together Now, Galway International Arts Festival and more, and in support of her forthcoming new album, Kate will perform at Other Voices Derry on September 25 and 26. This edition marks the beginning of the 25th Anniversary Year of Other Voices.
Kate also announced three intimate Irish shows in October, which sold out immediately, and she will return to Ireland in February for another run of shows - tour dates here.
