Today (5.15), Katie Pruitt – one of the most emotionally honest voices in modern Americana and indie-folk – shares her poignant new single, “Same Boat.” 

Written by Pruitt and produced by Isaiah Beard (Jobi Riccio, Jack Van Cleaf), the song has gained traction on her socials for its timely message. In a country so fractured, Pruitt argues that the real enemy is the wealthiest 1% that profits off all the division of the rest of us. Never one to be afraid to speak up about the issues she believes in, she sings, “they don’t care if we’re yelling, if we’re buying what they’re selling, and they don’t care if the world goes up in smoke.” 

“'Same Boat' is about how the top 1% keeps getting richer while the rest of us remain divided,” shares Pruitt. “Regardless of political party, 75% of Americans are still living paycheck to paycheck. As long as we keep blaming each other, no one at the top is being held accountable. If we really are sinking in the same boat, we’ve got to learn how to get on the same page.”

“Same Boat” follows her album Mantras, which she shared a 2025 Deluxe version with 3 new tracks, including collaborations with S.G. Goodman and Ruston Kelly. The album was praised by NPR Music, Vulture, CBS Saturday and more. Earlier this year, she shared “Kindness Isn’t Common Sense,” urging kindness in the wake of recent tragedies in the world.
