Knockdown Center Announces The Inaugural Night Out, A Pride Celebration Co-Presented by Pitchfork & Them

Today, Knockdown Center expands its packed month of Pride programming with the announcement of a brand new, one-day event. Co-presented by Pitchfork and Them, Night Out will take place across two stages from 6pm-1am on Saturday, June 17th, bringing together a multi-genre lineup of alternative queer pop artists whose music has empowered listeners and broken through barriers of sound and identity. In addition to a headline performance from multi platinum-certified singer, writer, dancer, producer and R&B force Tinashe, the event will feature a mind-bending collision of electronica and cumbia from Canadian-Colombian, Afro-Indigenous trailblazer Lido Pimienta, the patriarchy-smashing garage rock of Brooklyn's own Pom Pom Squad, and the high-energy, ballroom-adjacent rap of Zebra Katz, whose songs explore the Black experience, sexuality and the desire to repossess his own narrative. Night Out is supported by Human by Orientation, an LGBTQ+ initiative from Max, Warner Bros. Discovery's enhanced streaming platform, and will celebrate the impact of queer musicians and the safe havens that queer clubs provide.

With even more artists to be revealed soon, Night Out sets will span Knockdown Center's 3,100-capacity Main Space, as well as the sprawling backyard Ruins, which will soon officially open for a spring and summer filled with similarly joyous and inclusive celebrations. As home to some of the most forward-thinking live performances in New York City and beyond, the Queens venue has become an essential destination for the LGBTQIA+ community, offering a spectrum of programming and a safe space for anyone to immerse themselves in what moves them most.

In addition to Night Out, this year's Pride month will bring Horse Meat Disco back to Knockdown Center on June 23rd and June 25th, plus Get Wrecked & Carry Pride on June 24th. While additional parties and concerts will also be announced for June onwards, Knockdown Center continually welcomes those on the cutting edge of culture, from recurring year-round events like the Bushwig drag festival to a recent fundraiser for the Ali Forney Center, the liberating dancefloor of BASEMENT and more. Night Out marks the latest in Knockdown Center's long-running series of partnerships with Pitchfork, following previous performances from Animal Collective, Big Freedia, Dawn Richard, Moses Sumney, Perfume Genius and more. The event is the first co-presented with Pitchfork's fellow Condé Nast brand Them, the award-winning platform for all of the bold and rebellious ways that LGBTQ+ people are reshaping the world every day. 

About Knockdown Center

Featuring programming of diverse formats and media, Knockdown Center aims to create a radically cross-disciplinary environment. The particularity of our architectural environment and history leads us to gravitate toward projects that demonstrate a sensitive reactivity to site and environment. This 50,000 square-foot building has seen continuous use for more than 100 years: first as the Gleason-Tiebout glass factory, then as Manhattan Door factory. It is named for the Knock-Down door frame that was invented here in 1956 by Samuel Sklar and remains an industry standard to this day. The frame could be shipped in pieces — or "knocked down" — and installed into existing walls, revolutionizing the speed and efficiency of building construction. The factory has since remained in the Sklar family and is again a site for innovation. Having undergone a renovation that is equal parts preservationist and state of the art, Knockdown Center now produces and hosts cultural events and exhibitions that respond to its unique architecture and dimensions.
