June 28, 2022 - Loudon Wainwright III has revealed the title track from his new album Lifetime Achievement, to be released August 19 on StorySound Records. The tongue-in-cheek old-time country love song finds Wainwright recounting his accomplishments - an embarrassment of riches, as he tells it - but realizing that: “All these honors don’t add up to all that much, it’s true, that the biggest surprise, the great surprise, is I managed to win you.”

The video was filmed in Wainwright’s home and pans over an abundance of his achievements that cover the walls. Awards, trophies, citations, and accolades, including his Grammy, the “1993 Favorite Artist Who Has Never Played Kerrville” award, a gold “King Dad” crown, autographs and photos, all ending with a closing shot of his guitar.

Says Wainwright about the single, “A title track if ever there was one.”

Song credits include: Andy Burton (backing vocal, piano), David Forman (backing vocal), Johnny Gale ( backing vocal), David Mansfield (pedal steel, high-string guitar, violin, viola), Tony Scherr (bass), Rich Pagano (drums), String arrangement (David Mansfield).

His first album of new original songs since 2014’s Haven’t Got The Blues YetLifetime Achievement finds LWIII in a state of deep reflection at age 75, over a set of 15 recently written, insightful and incisive gems that he wasn’t even planning to pen.

Wainwright released a lyric video for “Town & Country” with the album announcement earlier this month that finds him returning to his beloved Gotham after an extended stay in the country; thrilling to the round-the-clock wailing of sirens, the masked masses, and uninvited dinner guests of the rodent variety. Listen HERE. “Town & Country” was produced by Lorenzo Wolff and the album was recorded with two of Wainwright’s longtime producers, Dick Connette and Stewart Lerman.

After thirty albums, a Grammy, many film and TV credits, and songs recorded by such artists as Johnny Cash, Mose Allison, Bonnie Raitt and his son Rufus, Wainwright is perhaps our foremost six-string analyst and tragicomedian. And with Lifetime Achievement his “unmatched wit and wisdom” (NPR) has never been on sharper display. In the past few years, Wainwright has also published a widely celebrated memoir, Liner Notes, as well as Years in the Making - a boxed set which explores rarities, oddities, and never-before-released recordings made throughout his tremendous 50-year career.
