Mia Dyson Rebels Through Love On Blues-Rock Thriller “Sunny Hills”

“Hatred and cynicism are easy. Love is difficult,” Australian singer-songwriter Mia Dyson says on her new track “Sunny Hills” - a beautifully dark and gritty acknowledgement of the complexities that come alongside love. “Sunny Hills” is Dyson’s final advance track off her forthcoming album Tender Heart, which comes out February 23. The new original song from Dyson captures the strength and candor prevalent in the project’s entirety, as she works though the physical and emotional aftermath of a near-death experience. “It is the more rebellious and radical thing to do and to practice - to love people that I don’t like or don’t agree with. And while this song talks a lot about romantic love, that great kind of love can teach me about love for everyone.”

The origins of Tender Heart can be traced back to a harrowing night in the midst of the pandemic, when Dyson remembers going somewhere else entirely - a place of “darkness and nothingness.” It was after an earthquake struck her LA-home that Dyson experienced an undiagnosed heart arrhythmia, causing her to suddenly stop breathing. Dyson was rushed to the hospital by her husband, where she had a defibrillator implanted and was left to take stock of such a close call. In the months that followed, Dyson taught herself to choose courage everyday - learning to rise above debilitating anxiety, and adopt an open-hearted approach even in life’s toughest endeavors. On Tender Heart, Dyson’s candid, deeply-felt lyrics bring the listener with her on that journey to renewed life, cherishing the moments and music that came so close to never actualizing. 

Tender Heart is Dyson’s seventh studio album, building on an accomplished career that’s seen this renowned craftsperson win an ARIA award for Best Blues and Roots album in her native Australia, be voted one of the country's "Best Guitar Players Ever,” and open for legends like Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Nicks. She has also earned praise from P!NK (“Mia Dyson blew my mind apart”), NPR Music’s Best Of The Year lists and received a four star review from Rolling Stone (“a soulful wonder”). 

Dyson will tour Tender Heart across Australia beginning in mid-February, before returning to the United States later in 2024. A full list of announced dates is below.
