Mod Sun Releases “Heavy” Ft. Blackbear Today

ON THE HEELS OF HIS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED ALBUM INTERNET KILLED THE ROCKSTAR (BIG NOISE) THAT DEBUTED AT #8 ON SPOTIFY’S TOP GLOBAL ALBUM DEBUTS

Today, Mod Sun – the Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter whose track “Flames” ft. Avril Lavinge is Top 20 on Alternative Radio – releases “Heavy” featuring close friend and collaborator blackbear, whose current hit, “My Ex’s Best Friend,” alongside Machine Gun Kelly is making history as the first song to hit #1 on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay chart with two lead soloists. 

“Heavy” is a pop hit with underlying punk influences that features an explosive electronic chorus. “This song is about finding out the ugly truth and feeling empty, so empty it feels heavy,” says blackbear. 

“This isn't a song that 'features' blackbear,” says Mod Sun. “This is the kind of song that two people come together to make one piece of art. Both of our souls live on this song." 

Mod Sun and blackbear have risen through the ranks of the music industry together from their start as up and comers in the hip-hop arena to the multi-faceted charting artists that they are today. The two have toured nationally together and collaborated on multiple tracks including “Spent All My Money,” “Shoot Em Down feat. Machine Gun Kelly”and their 2016 side project, Hotel Motel. Hotel Motel was pivotal for Mod Sun, as it marked the discovery of his powerful singing voice. Most recently, Mod and blackbear worked on the viral hit film Downfalls High with Machine Gun Kelly that received more than 16 million views opening weekend. 

"I've been saving this song for over a year,” continues Mod Sun. “I worked with an amazing team of people JP Clark, Ryan Daly, and Matt Marino. It was made during a very pivotal point in my life where I was completely rebuilding myself. During that time, blackbear was one of the people that helped me make those changes and without him, I don't fully know that I would have been able to.” 

"Mod and I have been best friends for over a decade and we've both grown in so many ways," continues blackbear. “We have tattoos of each other’s logos, we've shared beds ... vans when we were touring. Fun fact, I used to play bass for him while I was still launching blackbear. I felt this song in a spiritual way and was so happy to join him on it.”
