Motel Radio Learn To Bask In Life's Little Moments On Warm And Breezy New Single "Wise"

New Orleans indie staples Motel Radio have returned with their first new single of the year today, "Wise," which uses the easygoing sounds of a sun-kissed summer day to explore growing up, settling down and the choices we make for the ones we love. With serene and instantly-memorable melodies tucked between splashes of cosmic sublimity and hometown sonic homages, "Wise" is ultimately a testament to putting life's outside pressures on hold in celebration of those little moments that make it all feel worthwhile. And for Motel Radio, life's outside pressures have been top of mind throughout the pandemic; with the one-time New Orleans live fixtures now living in different cities and working on new music remotely from across the country. But practicing the optimism that radiates in their songwriting, what might feel like an ending for some has been embraced as a new beginning for Motel Radio, with a renewed focus on prioritizing life and loved ones in tandem with a slew of new music to come later this year. "'Wise' is a song about growing up, and realizing what is important. I wrote it soon after moving in with my girlfriend back in late 2019," says Motel Radio's Winston Triolo. "This was a time in my life where I had a lot of opportunities to go out and party with friends, but I opted to stay home and hang with my girl. I could have kept doing all of the same stuff as before, but I felt myself growing out of that. I wanted to spend time with my girl, and that’s what became most important to me."

The release of "Wise" marks the continuation of a musical output that's seen Motel Radio rise to the top of their hometown's indie scene, including regular JazzFest appearances and opening slots for some of the genre's biggest names like Kurt Vile. On the band's new music coming throughout the year, they expand their sonic territory even further than before - as heard on the hypnotizing digital drum loops of "Wise" - while exploring deeply-personal lyrical territory that draws on their own experiences with mental health during the pandemic and much more. They will also return to the road later this year, with new tour dates to be announced soon. Motel Radio is Ian Wellman (vocals/guitar), Winston Triolo (vocals/guitar), Andrew Pancamo (bass) and Eric Lloyd (drums).
