Mura Masa & Charli XCX Release New Single, "1 Night"
Coachella + US headline shows confirmed, more US dates to come
Mura Masa (Alex Crossan) and Charli XCX have released single "1 Night," available today on Anchor Point / Downtown / Geffen. "1 Night" is Mura Masa's first single from his full-length debut album due this summer. The 20-year-old multi-instrumentalist and producer will make his first-ever Coachella appearance this year alongside a host of major European festival dates, and US headlining shows (with more to be announced).
"1 Night" is an instantly-infectious return from Mura Masa, colliding steel drums, marimba and off-kilter electronics into an anthem for friends who've crossed a line (but may yet be able to go back to how things were). Written with Charli XCX, "1 Night" brings together two of the most exciting innovators in modern pop.
Mura Masa grew up on the island of Guernsey off the south coast of Britain, where his mom's Joni Mitchell records and his dad's years spent playing in hard rock bands offered a dual influence of classic and experimental songwriting. With the nearest gig hotspot a 5-hour ferry journey away in Southampton, UK, culture tended to be DIY out of necessity. At the age of 15, Mura Masa discovered that electronic music was "a thing," before stumbling into James Blake's work, which taught him "just how far you can go with it." He immersed himself in the entire discographies of songwriters and beat makers across YouTube and SoundCloud, quickly learning the bigger picture through which bedroom producers could shake the world.
Since then, Mura Masa has been streamed over 200 million times (55 million alone on last single "Love$ick"), conquered the festival circuit, sold out his first US headline tour in one day, and sold out 3 headline European tours (at over 20,000 tickets). Having produced the opening track on Stormzy's number-1-charting debut album, he has carefully curated collaborators of his own: ranging from breakout stars (Nao, Bonzai) to the scene's biggest names (A$AP Rocky, Charli XCX). He hasn't strayed from his DIY roots, either; Crossan established his own label, Anchor Point, launched a mixtape series (AP Sound) and radio shows to expand the realm of Mura Masa.
