The latest from her forthcoming ‘Pins and Needles’ album due October 8th via Fantasy Records, the percussion-driven song “Pinwheel” channels early '90s alt-rock that inspired Hemby growing up and features the lyrical individuality that has earned her recognition as “one of Nashville’s strongest creative figures” (Billboard). Written with Barry Dean (Ashley Monroe, Little Big Town, Thomas Rhett) and Madison Kozak, the song compares fame to a blurry kaleidoscope of color.

“’Pinwheel’ was the last song I wrote for the record,” says Hemby. "I wanted lyrics that summed up the last 10 years of my life, which has been an absolute beautiful blur. ‘Carried all my dreams by the handle, heavy as an anvil. And then they all showed up.’ Barry Dean and Madison Kozak helped me carve out what I wanted to say…. Like a therapy session.”

The last 10 years of Hemby’s career, which she calls a “beautiful blur,” have made her one of the most in-demand contemporary songwriters. Her songs have been recorded by artists like Kacey Musgraves, Alicia Keys and Ed Sheeran to name a few, and has penned No. 1 songs for Miranda Lambert (“White Liar,” “Automatic” & “Bluebird"), Lady A (“Downtown”), Justin Moore (“You Look Like I Need A Drink”) and others. In 2019, she joined Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Amanda Shires to create The Highwomen, whose self-titled album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Country chart. She earned her first GRAMMY for penning Lady Gaga’s “I’ll Never Love Again,” from A Star Is Born. Now fans will hear the culmination of her successful career on ‘Pins and Needles’ on October 8th.

In its Fall PreviewThe New York Times praises the 'Pins and Needles album for its "sinewy, naturalistic 1990s sound.” Entertainment Weekly listed it as one of the top 29 albums to listen to this Fall, HERE.

Hemby performed with her group The Highwomen at the Americana Honors & Awards this past Wednesday (9.22), where they were nominated for Duo/Group of the Year. Last night (9.23), she performed her official AmericanaFest showcase at Cannery ballroom, and earlier this week, she was a featured artist at WMOT/NPR’s Live Sessions hosted at EastSide Bowl. She’ll participate in Change The Conversation Presents: Natalie Hemby’s Path to ‘Pins and Needles’ at The Westin today (9.24) from 3:30 - 4:30 PM CT.
