LOS ANGELES – Fans of Minneapolis rock legends The Replacements will get a rare inside look at the band’s recording process as part of a new mini-documentary focusing on the remix of their classic 1985 album, Tim, out today. https://Rhino.lnk.to/TimLIBBTA

Remixed by veteran producer Ed Stasium (Ramones, Talking Heads), the new version of the album is the centerpiece of the forthcoming boxed set, TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION, out Friday from Rhino for $89.98.

Shot this summer at Stasium’s KozyTone Studios in San Diego County, California, the 22-minute film offers insights into the Replacements' major label debut, and the 2023 efforts to revisit the album. Stasium is interviewed by the band’s biographer Bob Mehr, author of Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements. A two-time Grammy winner, Mehr co-produced the boxed set (with Rhino’s Jason Jones) and penned its liner notes.

In the doc, Stasium discusses his long relationship and close collaboration with original Tim album producer, the late Tommy Erdelyi, aka Tommy Ramone, with whom he worked on a series of iconic Ramones records in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Stasium – who was originally considered to work on Tim in ’85 – said that revisiting the album nearly 40 years later brought him full circle and offered a unique opportunity to collaborate with Erdelyi once again. “He was over my shoulder the whole time I was working on this,” said Stasium of Erdelyi, who died in 2014. “I had him in my ear.”

The film also gets deep into the inner workings of the album, as Stasium digs into the multi-tracks of signature Replacements’ songs like “Bastards of Young,” “Little Mascara,” and “Left of the Dial.” Stasium demonstrates how the new mix of Tim restores the rhythmic power of drummer Chris Mars and bassist Tommy Stinson, brings an emotional clarity to singer Paul Westberg’s vocals, and adds fresh elements to the tracks, including additional contributions from lead guitarist Bob Stinson.

The 4CD/1LP Tim: Let It Bleed Edition, which is built around Stasium’s stunning new mix of the record, also features a collection of previously unheard tracks (Sons of No One: Rare & Unreleased), and a classic concert from 1986 (Not Ready For Prime Time).

Fans that purchase TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION at Rhino.com will also receive a limited edition 7” vinyl single featuring the previously unreleased “Cello Version” of “Can’t Hardly Wait” and a new mix of the non-album rarity “Nowhere is My Home.”

Both those tracks will also be included on the boxed set’s Sons of No One: Rare & Unreleased, which collects revelatory versions of “Can’t Hardly Wait,” illuminating alternate takes of “Bastards of Young,” and “Hold My Life,” plus a unique and previously unheard original, “Havin Fun,” written by Tommy Stinson, and sung by Westerberg, all newly mixed by Stasium.

Announced last month, fans and critics have been buzzing about The Replacements TIM: LET IT BLEED EDITION. Along with Stasium’s remix, the set also includes a new and improved mastering of the original 1985 mix of the album. In addition to the disc of rare and unreleased studio material, the box also features The Replacements’ entire January 11, 1986, show at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago. In total, the set boasts 64 tracks–50 of which have never been heard before.
