Old Sea Brigade Brings Synths, Strings and Slide Guitars To Powerful Ruminations On Self Doubt With New Song Somedays

Old Sea Brigade's "Somedays," the latest look at his new album 5AM Paradise coming October 28, is out today via Nettwerk. Amidst a rich landscape of synthesizers, string arrangements and pedal steel guitar (performed by his labelmate and frequent collaborator Luke Sital-Singh), Old Sea Brigade opens up about isolation and self-doubt that can "hover like the clouds" through difficult moments. Written during a pandemic Zoom session with Sital-Singh at a moment where they both longed for a taste of normal, understated lyrics like "I miss the easy way home" and "will it always have to be this way" take on profound significance with their gripping vocal delivery from OSB's Ben Cramer. Ultimately, "Somedays" takes stock of those low points head-on in an effort to start anew.

Already praised as "his most expansive work yet" by Under The Radar, 5AM Paradise is rich with "sharply-written threads of aging, youthful longing, and newfound maturity on a coming-of-age record of vivid scale." With a unique sonic fusion of "warm Americana" (Brooklyn Vegan) and "synths reminiscent of Joy Division" (KUTX), the ten-song collection was recorded by Old Sea Brigade in a handmade studio high-atop the North Carolina mountains in those titular moments of pre-dawn peace. Recorded with longtime musical partners and friends including Owen Lewis, Jeremy Griffith and Sital-Singh, the new album also features lauded members of Old Sea Brigade's Nashville music community like co-writer Trent Dabbs (who also co-wrote Kacey Musgraves' "High Horse") and instrumentalists Eli Beaird (Willie Nelson, Ruston Kelly), Kris Donegan (Mickey Guyton, Hayes Carll) and Julian Dorio (Amanda Shires, Eagles Of Death Metal).
