Petal Releases Raw New Song "Tightrope" Today, Announces European Dates
"uplifting fuzz-rock riffs and soaring pop melodies" - NPR MusicPetal (Kiley Lotz) has debuted "Tightrope", the next track from her highly anticipated new LP 'Magic Gone' (June 15, Run For Cover) today. Lotz paints a lyrical mosaic of pain and wonder throughout the slow burning track with a palpable sense of rising energy. Lotz's instrumentation and vocals crescendo towards an apex with heavy guitars underpinning her falsetto as she sings "the truth is just a piece of coal dressed as gold."
""Tightrope" serves as the thesis of the duality of the record," says Lotz. "Tightrope Walker/Miracle Clinger are the two worlds I was living in: becoming very skilled at a dangerous performance, which has great consequences if you fail and also clinging onto the idea that there is hope in all this pain and maybe there will be some great resolution beyond my control."
Listen to "Tightrope".
Petal's new album 'Magic Gone' is out June 15 on Run For Cover, and Stereogum called the lead single "charged-up, confident and catchy" with early comparisons to 'Cerulean Salt'-era Waxahatchee.
'Magic Gone' is vitally important and cathartic, and the duality between vignettes on songs makes it a piece to be heard as a whole. Comprised of a Side A titled Tightrope Walker and Side B titled Miracle Clinger, 'Magic Gone' is a chronicle of songs that Lotz wrote before she entered recover for major depressive and panic disorders, and songs she wrote in recovery, and also covers the period of time in which Lotz came out as a queer person. In her own words, Lotz tried to channel the vigor of the likes of Queen and Nina Simone along with modern vocalists like Solange, Margaret Glaspy and Mitski.
Petal also embarks on a run of European dates this fall.
