PJ Morton Launches The Culture, A New Trivia Show Celebrating Black Art, Entertainment & More
|
At 8pm ET / 7pm CT today, June 3rd, PJ Morton launches The Culture, a weekly, live-streamed trivia show quizzing artists, actors, and distinguished guests on their knowledge of black entertainment, art, and more. Morton will host the series on his YouTube channel, where viewers can comment and play along as he puts a trio of contestants to the test. Up first are Questlove and Questlove Supreme co-hosts Laiya St. Clair and Phonte.
Head to youtube.com/pjmorton to catch the premiere, and stay tuned for new episodes, lineups, and questions every Wednesday at 8pm ET. On starting the series this week in particular, PJ explains:
"It's such a heavy time in the world right now, and after so many years of frustration and being ignored, none of this is about an isolated incident. I considered pushing back the relaunch of the show, but then I thought about my reason for wanting to start it in the first place. It's a platform created to celebrate black culture. We can be in the fight and celebrate each other at the same time. I want it to be a home for us. A place where we don't just play a game but we learn and talk about whatever we're dealing with."
Created by Conversations Are Free, a production company formed between Morton and his manager Wade Jordan, The Culture evolved from an R&B trivia show the duo presented to and produced with ESSENCE in April and May. Players included JoJo, BJ The Chicago Kid, Ledisi, and Rico Love, among others, but The Culture expands the format beyond music and into broader conversations with and about the black creative community, covering themes from the 1960s to the present day.
