Hometown Set at New Orleans Jazz Fest Kicks Off Major Tour For Spring, Summer & Fall

Today, PJ Morton releases his biggest and best album to date: Watch The Sun. Out now on his own Morton Records, all 11 songs were written and produced by the multi Grammy-winning, New Orleans born and bred soul artist, marking the next chapter in a remarkable career that continues to bridge styles, traditions and generations. "Morton's smooth, soulful funk amalgamates with every style from reggae to Afrobeats," raves Essence. "Resulting in a more versatile musical offering than we've seen yet from the artist - even as he covers the gamut of life experiences from romance to the everyday keeping on."

Alongside special appearances from Stevie Wonder & NasAlex Isley & Jill ScottJoJo & Mr. TalkboxChronixxEl DeBargeWale and other friends, collaborators and idols, PJ Morton dives deeper inward to confront the true challenges and changes he never thought he would sing about. "I'm being more honest, more authentic, more open than I've been in the past," he says.

Watch PJ Morton discuss the album on today's edition of CBS Mornings, in an interview filmed from Bogalusa, Louisiana's Studio In The Country. As he explains, it was that storied studio in the middle of nowhere – where Allen Toussaint, Betty Davis, Stevie Wonder and more have all recorded – that allowed him to focus on the music of Watch The Sun in a fully organic and effortless way, serving almost as another band member all together.

After the most unbelievably active years of his career, the pandemic forced PJ Morton to slow down and take a step back. He spent time with his family that he otherwise couldn't have, and when he started to pivot back to writing music, his computer crashed and he lost all of his latest work. When inspiration began to hit, and his drive to return to the studio became too strong to ignore, he took it as a sign to make sure whatever he was about to say was deliberate.

Later today on The Kelly Clarkson Show, PJ Morton will deliver the live debut of "On My Way" (feat. El DeBarge), and this evening he will make a grand return to New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, kicking off an international Watch The Sun Tour that will take him to New York City's Apollo Theater, Los Angeles' Theater at Ace Hotel, Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and more than 30 other shows this spring, summer and fall. All dates are on-sale at pjmortonmusic.com/#shows.

In the runup to Watch The Sun, PJ Morton has also appeared on the Tamron Hall ShowJimmy Kimmel Live! The Real and Good Morning America, where he performed "My Peace" (feat. JoJo & Mr. Talkbox) for the first time, hailed as "a refreshing anthem for self-care" (VIBE). Additionally, over the past week he gave fans an early preview of the album at a series of visual listening parties presented in partnership with Regal Cinemas and local radio stations in Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston and Atlanta.
