Polaris Music Prize Announces Gala Performers And Grand Jury

TORONTO, ON - Wednesday, August 20, 2014.

The Polaris Music Prize today announced the line up of short list performers and attendees for the Polaris gala, taking place at The Carlu in Toronto on Monday, September 22. Confirmed performers include Basia Bulat, Jessy Lanza, Mac DeMarco, Owen Pallett, Shad and Tanya Tagaq. Members of Arcade Fire and YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN will be in attendance.

The Polaris gala will be hosted by Jay Baruchel on Monday, September 22nd at The Carlu in Toronto, and webcast live on Aux.tv and live audio broadcast on SiriusXM's Iceberg (Sirius 161) and The Verge (XM 173). A limited number of general admission tickets are available for purchase via Ticketfly for $50.

The Grand Jury has also been announced. The following 11 jurists will convene on the night of the gala to decide the winner: Adam Bowie (Fredericton, Daily Gleaner), Lorraine Carpenter (Montreal, CultMTL), Stephen Cooke (Halifax, Chronicle Herald), Jessica Émond-Ferrat (Montreal, Journal Métro), Luke Fox (Toronto, Exclaim), Stephanie McKay (Saskatoon, Star Phoenix), Liisa Ladouceur (Toronto, freelance), Melody Lau (Toronto, Much), Julia LeConte (Toronto, NOW Magazine), Alan Ranta (Vancouver, Freelance) and Mark Teo (Toronto, AUX).

The eligibility period for the 2014 Polaris Music Prize runs from June 1, 2013 to May 31, 2014. An independent jury of nearly 190 music journalists, broadcasters and music bloggers from across Canada determine the Long List and Short List.

The Polaris Music Prize awards $30,000 to the artist who creates the Canadian Album of the Year. The runners up from the Short List each receive $2,000 courtesy of Slaight Music. Past winners have included Godspeed You! Black Emperor (2013), Feist (2012), Arcade Fire (2011), Karkwa (2010), Fucked Up (2009), Caribou (2008), Patrick Watson (2007), and Final Fantasy (Owen Pallett) (2006).
