Prateek Kuhad Unveils Long-Awaited Official Release Of Gripping Live Favorite "Hopelessly"

"India's Most Popular Singer-Songwriter" (GQ) Announces Deluxe Re-Issue Of Elektra Records Debut 'The Way That Lovers Do' With Eight New Bonus Tracks Out May 19

Prateek Kuhad has returned with the new original song "Hopelessly" today, an enrapturing piano-driven heartbreaker which finds the India-based indie-folk superstar taking his vulnerable, enchanting and empathetic signature sound to new heights. A live staple as Kuhad's audiences have grown from hundreds to many thousands, "Hopelessly" originally surfaced on YouTube during a soundcheck performance in 2019. Even in sketch form, the track ended up on New York Magazine's Best New Songs list alongside Rosalia and FKA Twigs, while earning comparisons in the piece to James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. Now accompanied by string arrangements and full production, "Hopelessly" adds to a remarkable run that's seen Kuhad grace the cover of India's Rolling Stone, earn praise from Barack Obama on his famous year-end lists and play to bigger audiences than ever across continents - including his debut at Los Angeles' hallowed Walt Disney Concert Hall next year.

The first new song from Kuhad this year comes alongside the announcement of an expanded deluxe edition of 2022's Elektra debut 'The Way That Lovers Do' coming on May 19. The stirring eleven-song collection, recorded in Seattle with producer Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, Vance Joy), will be reissued with eight new bonus tracks including "Hopelessly," the unheard "I Never Knew" and an alternate version of "Bloom" featuring Indian-American R&B standout Raveena. The deluxe edition celebrates a collection which saw Kuhad named as one of People Magazine's Emerging Artists To Watch while selling out North American venues like the 1,200-capacity Irving Plaza in New York City. At home, he was named one of the Most Influential Young Indians by GQ (featured in the top two) while serving as one of the main draws at the country's inaugural Lollapalooza this January.

A note from Prateek about this Deluxe release below:

Kuhad's road to global acclaim was not always this inevitable though, first giving songwriting a try while an international student at NYU - after finding his love of artists like Elliott Smith,  Laura Marling and Fleet Foxes. Discovering a natural gift for the craft after dusting off his acoustic (he was kicked out of lessons during an earlier attempt to learn the instrument), Kuhad's intimate heart-on-your-sleeve lyricism - in both English and Hindi - turned heads at international competitions across the globe. It was the artist's 2018 EP 'cold/mess' that served as a true breakout moment for Kuhad - becoming one of the most streamed domestic artists as Spotify launched in India, earning an "Artist To Watch" designation from NPR at his first SXSW, and seeing his music placed in pivotal scenes of top TV shows like 'Ted Lasso.'
