Qobuz and International Anthem to Present Makaya McCraven's Album Release Show

Brooklyn's Public Records - Monday, September 19th at 7:30pm ET

Live recording of show to be exclusively released in Hi-Res on Qobuz

Chicago-based percussionist, composer, and producer Makaya McCraven, and a special all-star line-up, will perform music from his new album, In These Times, on Monday, September 19th, as the next show in a partnership between Qobuz, the Hi-Res music streaming and download platform, and Chicago independent label International Anthem. In These Times will be co-released via International Anthem, Nonesuch, and XL Recordings on September 23rd.

The concert will feature unique live arrangements of the music from In These Times. Makaya will be joined by his recurring bandmates Junius Paul, Brandee Younger, De’Sean Jones and a special guest appearance of the string quartet from the new album: Marta Sofia Honer, Macie Stewart, Zara Zaharieva and Lia Kohl. Live recordings of the performance will be exclusively released in Hi-Res on Qobuz following the show. Previous shows in the series have featured performances by Alabaster DePlume, Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer and Anteloper—the experimental duo of Jazon Nazary and the late jaimie branch—and resulted in recorded-on-site live releases (exclusively on Qobuz) from each artist in Hi-Res.

The International Anthem/Qobuz shows and exclusive releases are just one example of Qobuz’ commitment to the independent music community, and the more adventurous music often overlooked by the mainstream. Earlier this year, Qobuz held a showcase at SXSW featuring a slate of indie artists including Circuit des Yeux, Moor Mother, claire rousay, and Marina Herlop, and previous exclusive releases include music from Christian McBride, Frank Zappa, Tower of Power, and many more. Profiled in the New York Times, VicePitchforkRolling Stone, the Guardian, and NPR, among other publications, Makaya, who has been aptly called a “cultural synthesizer” and “beat scientist,” has a unique gift for collapsing space, destroying borders and blending past, present, and future into poly-textural arrangements of post-genre, jazz-rooted 21st century folk music. In These Times encompasses his artistic ethos, his experiences, identity and lineage, while pushing his music to new heights.
