Last week Roosevelt (Marius Lauber) introduced “Sign”, the first new single since his sophomore album 'Young Romance' in 2018. The song, “a thumping house-pop jam with an emotional ballad at its gooey center” to quote Stereogum, pays homage to early house and vintage pop. The video produced by Ohad Ben-Moshe takes the concept even further:

“Sign is a very synth-heavy track, I can‘t remember the last one I didn‘t use any guitars on. The lyrics for the song are about longing for a sheer sign of someone else, so we came up with the idea of me trying to give a sign through a synthesizer. I‘m trying to communicate through all kinds of elements on the synth, including keys, a VHS screen and an oscilloscope,” said Marius. “We worked with an Israeli 3D designer called Ohad Ben-Moshe who created the synth. To get my shots I got a green screen and set it up in my studio and recorded myself as it was in the middle of lockdown. It somehow feels authentic to the music video though that I was on my own trying to communicate with the outside world.”

"I’m very proud of the end result and working with an internationally acclaimed artist like Roosevelt was an honor for me,” said Ohad Ben-Moshe. “The working process was also a learning process, as for this videoclip we didn’t only use 3D but also implemented two different motion design techniques. When I received the brief I knew it’s a project I’d like to take part in. As a visual designer, I was always fascinated by the outcome of combining and mixing different visual languages.”

Roosevelt is and always was a dedicated music lover, with a rich knowledge of several decades of music, from yacht rock to Balearic textures, house euphoria to sub-zero techno, he’s drawn to all forms of dance music. Guided by the emotional and physical connection to music, he uses his outstanding skills in electronics to create music that pushes and pulls between the body and the mind. It’s the warm emotional touch that drives his music and made people fall in love with his tunes since his very early singles, his outstanding debut album ‘Roosevelt’ (2016) and the bold, addictive follow up ‘Young Romance’ (2018). And it is Roosevelt’s warm emotional touch that also drives ‘Sign’ forward again.

When not locked in his studio cranking out the hits, Roosevelt is also an in-demand producer, collaborating with Classixx and Washed Out or remixing artists like Rhye, Chvrches and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Alongside his successful live career, relentlessly touring with his band all over the world, he has also DJ’d at landmark clubs like Berlin’s Panorama Bar and London’s Fabric, rocked festivals such as Primavera Sound, Glastonbury, while also appearing on Boiler Room.
