Nashville-based singer-songwriter Ruston Kelly releases his first original single of the year, "Half Past Three." The track, written by Kelly and produced by Jarrad K (Kate Nash, Weezer), is a meditation on Kelly’s search for peace within the chaos, as he transforms unsparing and often-painful self-examination into moments of sublime catharsis. Listen HERE.

"If you observe the world around you and see chaos, and you observe the internal world and feel that sentiment unsettles you personally, it can breed a sense of hopelessness. Or can even more dangerously make one adopt the idea that things just fall apart,” says Kelly. “I was faced with questions I didn’t have answers to at the moment, but that assuredly, when the day is done, and you’re laying in bed spinning out over these things, and your reason to get up and take it, turns over gently to you, there is a silent moment listening to it raining outside and you realize, in spite of it all, I already have what matters most."

"Half Past Three" arrives on the heels of the second volume of his fan-favorite covers record Dirt Emo Vol. 2 and two sold out 'Dirt Emo Night' shows at the Basement East in Nashville. Since the release of his 2023 album The Weakness, Kelly has performed on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and been hailed by Rolling Stone, NPR, Consequence, and The New York Times, which praised his ability to "find power in fallibility."

Kelly will perform at Railbird Music Festival in Lexington, KY on May 31, with more tour dates coming soon. For more information, please visit rustonkelly.com

PRAISE FOR RUSTON KELLY

“…shows a powerful grasp on storytelling gleaned from his love of the Carter Family and Townes Van Zandt, but also a more ragged rock & roll soul: it’s Americana, if your Americana is Bruce Springsteen with an acoustic guitar, sung by someone who spins a little heavy metal too.” - ROLLING STONE

“Dying Star’s dozen songs, propelled by his Americana and pop-punk tastes, thread the tension between downbeat and shimmery; he calls his style “dirt emo” Its title track features reverb-heavy vocals and a slow build to guitar peels, finding power in fallibility.”

– THE NEW YORK TIMES

“Taking stock of your life and making peace with it forms the crux of The Weakness…The beauty in (Kelly’s) songwriting lies in his ability to recognize his own responsibility in the setbacks that plague him.” – PEOPLE

“An album (The Weakness) of unreserved, hope-laced self-reflection…(Kelly’s) candid songwriting reflects a sense of rediscovery and resilience laced with sharp humor.” – CONSEQUENCE

“Like a mixture of Tom Petty rockers and early alt-country Wilco bangers…Although he’s just 34, in a lot of ways, (Kelly) is a veteran who’s now found his voice – able to offer a deep, introspective look at the human condition, with a wink of irony here and there.” – RELIX

“…Kelly defines modern folk-rock songwriting. It’s music with an ear-worm melody that you can’t help but whistle along to but laced with sincere lyrics that bare the deepest part of the singer’s soul.”
