Sam Outlaw Takes an 8-Bit Animated Journey in “Sun Ain’t Set” Video, Out Today (12.2)

Announces Additional Headlining Dates for 2022

Sam Outlaw continues to tip his hat to '80s pop-culture with the release of the official video for his Lauper-leaning track, "Sun Ain’t Set," a tune on his recent 'Popular Mechanics' (11.12) album. The video's vintage visual takes fans on a retrofitted, 8-bit animation journey, blending old-school art with surrealist animation in a thoughtful and playful way.

Inspired by Outlaw's favorite video games of the '80s, the piece of art was created by digital designer Andrew Knives, whose work pays homage to the retro-futuristic computer graphics of the '80s and '90s. Using green screen technology, Outlaw explores a pixelated world that feels like it was pulled straight from a vintage Nintendo game, watching it blossom around him with each step he takes.

With a sound that has been praised by NPR, The New YorkerLA Times, and more, Outlaw released 'Popular Mechanics' on November 12, his first full-length project in four years, which opens the doors on a new musical chapter in the 'SoCal' country artist's career by blending his signature roots-inspired sound with staple sounds of '80s pop production. Serving as a prime example of this new musical direction, "Sun Ain’t Set" is Outlaw's take on a folk tune with an "aesthetic makeover," featuring fretless bass and subtle synths that hover throughout the catchy chorus.

Taking 'Popular Mechanics' on the road in the new year, the LA-turned-Nashville resident continues to line up an extensive list of headlining dates for 2022, recently announcing a stop at Washington D.C.’s Songbyrd Music House along with multiple additional dates in the UK. More shows are set to announce in the coming weeks, and tickets are on-sale now at samoutlaw.com/tour.
