Today (7.17), GRAMMY-nominated artist and “soaring star” (WonderlandSavana Santosstages the ultimate best friend intervention on her new song “CRYING ON UR BIRTHDAY,” out now via Big Machine Records. Arriving ready to celebrate, the synth-pop singer-songwriter finds herself sitting with a friend six months deep in a love haze – offering space to cry, but drawing the line when heartbreak starts to steal another milestone.

Co-written with Sam Backoff (The Band Perry, Charles Esten) and Alex Hope (Selena Gomez, Troye Sivan), and co-produced by Hope alongside Santo’s signature progressive-pop touch (Little Big Town, JP Saxe, Joshua Bassett), “CRYING ON UR BIRTHDAY” layers shimmering synths, delicate piano and hyperpop-inspired vocals beneath her refreshingly unfiltered tough love. Rather than dismissing the bittersweet growing pains that come with getting older (fading teenage dreams, changing seasons and letting go), the song embraces those moments of change while reminding listeners that some pain shapes you, but not everything deserves a place in your next chapter.

“CRYING ON UR BIRTHDAY” follows Santos’ recent releases “4 minutes” (6.26), a bittersweet goodbye that captured love’s breaking point, and the friendship anthem “SOULMATES (ft. Sam Backoff)” (6.15),” continuing her run as a boundary-pushing, multi-hyphenate artist. First introduced as part of the viral trio Avenue Beat (“F2020”), Santos – alongside Sami Bearden and frequent collaborator Backoff – earned coverage from VarietyPEOPLERolling StoneTeen VogueNYLON and PAPER
