Selah Sue Conquers Doubt By Letting Go On “Free Fall”
LISTEN TO “FREE FALL” HERE
Today, platinum-selling Belgian singer-songwriter Selah Sue — who returned from a five-year hiatus with 2020’s “raw and uninhibited” (Atwood) Bedroom EP— shares her new single “Free Fall,” out now on Because Music.
Atop overdriven drums and oozing basslines, Selah Sue excavates her own interior doubts with a philosophical outlook. Sings Selah Sue: “What would it take for my mind to be a quiet place? … Understanding is not enough. To accept myself as I am is also a way of free falling.” The chorus rises to a call-and-response climax that lands midway between CrazySexyCool-era TLC and Thundercat’s rapturous funk, resulting in a showcase for Selah’s singularly expressive voice.
