Seth Avett Releases New Solo Album, Feathe
11-Track Collection Showcases Avett’s Ongoing Autobiographical Narrative, Experience-Based Philosophy, and Continued Musical Evolution
New Home-Spun Video for “The Question of Evil / Next Century (featuring Jessica Lea Mayfield)” Out Now - Watch HERE
September 5, 2025 — Seth Avett— celebrated songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and founding member of The Avett Brothers—has released his new solo album, Feathe (rhymes with ‘breathe’), today under the name Timothy Seth Avett as Darling. Showcasing Avett’s ongoing autobiographical narrative, experience-based philosophy, and musical evolution, Feathe marks a bold new creative chapter for Avett, pulling inspiration from the music of his childhood and expanding into fresh sonic territory.
Written entirely by Avett over the course of many years and co-produced with Dana Nielsen (SZA, Adele, Weezer, Rihanna), Feathe blends organic instrumentation with experimental elements, fusing guitar, bass, drums, piano, and synths — all performed by Avett and Nielsen. The result is a record that is at once intimate and expansive, rooted in classic songwriting while texturally unexpected.
Thematically, the album delves into the deeply personal landscape listeners have come to expect from Avett, with early fatherhood and growing spirituality at the fore. A palette of plainspoken positivity and sustaining hope color an already colorful canvas, with lyrics woven characteristically with vulnerability and care. Drawing inspiration from the shared musical canon, classic literature, and — as always — life itself, Feathe further establishes Avett's emotional depth and versatility as both a musician and storyteller.
All vocals on the album are by Avett, with additional contributions from songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield and Charissa Nielsen (Post Malone, The Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young), giving Feathe an unmistakably singular focus. Each track has an accompanying home-spun music video as well.
Avett previewed the album with two early singles - “Education,” is a reflection on how life’s true lessons come from experience — loss, love, hardship, and fatherhood — rather than traditional schooling, and “It’s Natural,” which blends sharp-witted wordplay, Southern storytelling, and literary depth to trace his path from humble roots to artistic confidence. Listen to “Education” / watch the video (captured by Avett at his house) HERE and “It’s Natural” HERE.
Today, Avett has unveiled the video for release day focus track “The Question of Evil / Next Century (featuring Jessica Lea Mayfield),” a reflection on the darkness that lives within everyone, exploring how vulnerability and circumstance can bring it to the surface. In the lyrics, Avett acknowledges human flaws with honesty while suggesting that self-awareness and resilience can keep us grounded in the good most of the time. Listen / watch the video HERE.

Avett has released four solo projects and is a founding member of beloved North Carolina band The Avett Brothers, who are on tour throughout 2025. For more information, please visit https://www.theavettbrothers.com/.
