NEW TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED
Toronto-based rapper Shad’s new album ‘A Short Story About A War’ is out today via Secret City Records. A true hip-hop saga with its own rich mythology, this record takes place in a dystopian desert world entirely of Shad’s own creation. A cast of warring, politically divided factions clash in this post-apocalyptic allegory: Snipers, Revolutionaries, Stone Throwers, and The Fool. Through his exploration of this society, Shad sheds light on the major issues that face our own: class warfare, the environment, migration, dirty politics, and above all the prevailing human spirit. Noisey has deemed the album “the challenging record we deserve” while Shad has just announced new dates to his 2018-2019 North American tour that begins November 1 supporting the record.
In addition to his album being out today, the prize winning and critically acclaimed docuseries Shad hosts – Netflix’s original ‘Hip-Hop Evolution’ – just debuted its second season last week. Shad’s song “The Fool Pt 1 (Get It Got It Good)” was just played on Ebro’s Beats1 show and last week he appeared on Red Bull’s Peak Time program. In Canada, Shad has recently appeared on Strombo, eTalk, in Exclaim!, returned to CBC’s ‘q’ (Shad hosted that program for a year) and was part of NOW Toronto’s Top 10 albums to listen this Fall.
Shad has also unveiled a cinematic animated trailer for the album that illustrates its trenchant, intertwining story, directed by Amika Cooper (blackpowerbarbie) -

‘A Short Story About A War’ finds Shad bouncing effortlessly from menacing trap to jazz and funk-flecked beats all while telling this tale of sociopolitics. The list of collaborators includes Kaytranada, 2oolman of A Tribe Called Red, Lido Pimienta, Yukon Blonde, Ian Kamau, Eternia and DJ T Lo. Shad has been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize for 3 of his full length records, and won a JUNO Award for rap album of the year in 2011.
