Entrepreneurs, parents of three, and former elite athletes Shawn Johnson East and Andrew East have established the Moment Makers Foundation, a charitable organization geared to help find, foster and fuel meaningful, life-changing moments for families. They are kicking off their foundation with their Moment Makers Grant.
Inspired by Allyson Felix’s Child Care Grant in 2021, The Easts will be providing $250,000 to support moms and dads competing in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic games to assist with their child care. While these athletes are dedicating their attention to their sport, The Easts will cover their childcare needs, enabling these individuals to create unforgettable moments as a family in Paris.
“We want to ease the financial challenges of securing child care as these athletes gear up to represent Team USA,” says Shawn Johnson East, a 4x Olympic Medalist. “The grant supports various childcare needs, whether it’s hiring a babysitter in Paris, compensating a caregiver at home during their travels or flying their children to join them as they compete. Whatever their childcare needs are, we would be honored to help.”
“There’s a misconception that Olympic and Paralympic athletes have all their expenses paid for; and while there are a handful of professional athletes with sponsors to help, most of these athletes pay out of pocket for their trip and expenses” adds Andrew East. “If the athletes have children, they also have to find and pay a babysitter, work out childcare at home or figure out logistics in Paris, all things that take time, money and effort. We want to help alleviate some of that so they can focus on their sport and this wonderful accomplishment.”

This is not The East's first entrepreneurial endeavor.
