Multiple Appearances Announced at SXSW

Recently, Alternative Press called Softee a “rising pop sensation whose ’80s synthy beats are a fresh sound you won’t want to miss,” and today she doubles down on such praise with her latest track “Isn’t Enough”, a cut from her forthcoming sophomore album ‘Natural’ (out May 12 via City Slang Records).

Initially written while spending a Christmas at home reeling from the intense breakup that partially inspired the forthcoming new album, “Isn’t Enough” shimmers with an irresistibly danceable vibe and an instantly addictive refrain. Listen HERE.

Paired with the song is today’s video drop, which was filmed at Brooklyn hotspot The Sultan Room and Turk’s Inn. The video, directed by Bao Ngo, claims inspiration from a classic Jennifer Lopez video, and finds Softee (the stage name of songwriter, popstar and Juilliard-trained actress Nina Grollman) performing as the bartender, patron and lounge singer in a nightclub. Watch HERE.

Today, Softee also announced her New York album release show on May 18 at Baby’s All Right featuring her classic two backup singer formation (tickets on sale tomorrow at 10AM ET), and she will also be down in Austin next week for a handful of performances & SXSW showcases including Avocados From Mexico’s House of Goodness at Lustre Pearl (3.14, 3PM), the Tiger Bomb Promo official showcase at The Velveeta Room (3.15, 11PM) and the City Slang/Merge/Nile Mile official showcase at the Continental Club (3.16, 8PM).

Softee will also be heading to Europe this summer to perform at City Slang’s 33rd birthday in Berlin alongside Noga Erez, Sinkane, Gold Panda and more of her City Slang labelmates.

Bao Ngo, the director of “Isn’t Enough”, said "I knew from the beginning that I wanted to make a video in which Softee plays multiple characters in the same setting to reflect either different phases or different sides of a relationship.

Softee added, “This video was inspired by J. Lo’s iconic video for ‘Get Right.’ I loved her playing all these different characters interacting in a nightclub, and wanted to bring some of that campiness into our vision. In our video, though, the different characters I play are all fragments of Softee: the worker, the performer, and the person waiting for a date. They exist inside me and they’re all sharing the struggle of being in a relationship that is no longer sustainable.”

Pre-release sister tracks “Molly” and “Red Light Green Light” as well as the Fangoria-approved horror short “Come Home,” all showcase the versatility of Softee, with “Molly” capturing the passion & spontaneity of her first date with her fiancée (turning her bedroom into a dancefloor, recreated in the music video), and “Red Light Green Light” utilizing a Squid Game sample and DIY on-the-street video to call out elitism and nepotism in modern society. Rolling StonePaper Magazine, & Billboard have already sung the praises of Softee, whose journey has taken her from a childhood spent singing karaoke in her parents’ basement and idolizing pop stars, to performing on Broadway with Denzel Washington in The Iceman Cometh, to this forthcoming album & uniquely refreshing era.
