Songhoy Blues Confirm First North American Headlining Tour & Bonnaroo Appearance In Support Of 'Music In Exile' (Atlantic)
Acclaimed Malian Band Debuts New Video For "Soubour" Featuring Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) Via Dangerous Minds
Acclaimed Malian band Songhoy Blues have confirmed their first North American headlining tour in support of their debut LP, 'Music in Exile' (Atlantic), which NME called "a masterpiece." The band recently opened for Damon Albarn at Royal Albert Hall in London, toured with Julian Casablancas + The Voidz in Europe, and completed a run of dates with Alabama Shakes in the US, gaining attention from Billboard, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times. The dates will also include a set at Bonnaroo, full itinerary below. Tickets go on sale at 10:00am local time on Friday, April 17th and will be available here.
Today Dangerous Minds premiered a new live video for lead cut "Soubour," featuring Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs):
Songhoy Blues came together as refugees, after being displaced by Islamic extremists who effectively banned music in their region of Mali. The group became a fixture on the live scene in the southern Malian town of Bamako, where Zinner discovered them, and eventually went on to produce 'Music in Exile.'
'Music in Exile' was released in the UK earlier this year to rave reviews. The Guardian called the album "a triumph," with The Independent noting the record is "as persuasively propulsive as anything so far released this year." Atlantic will release the album physically in the US on 4/21, and have partnered with Casablancas' Cult Records on the vinyl release, which is set for June.
Songhoy Blues are also the subject of a moving documentary called 'They Will Have to Kill Us First,' which Grantland called "the best rock doc of SXSW 2015." Watch the trailer here:
