Tamino Releases New Album, Every Dawn's a Mountain

US Tour Begins Next Week, Arena Shows Just Announced For Fall Run Through Europe & UK, Plus Arenas in Turkey & Upcoming Show in Egypt

Face of New Hermès Perfume

Today, with the release of his third album, Every Dawn's a MountainTamino scales the past and starts fresh, as he enters and embraces his next chapter: residing in a new American city he now calls home, playing larger stages than he has before, with a collection of his 10 best songs to date, featuring first-time collaborations with Mitski("Sanctuary") and others that appear across the LP. Likened to an altar for what's been lost, Every Dawn's a Mountain is a record that burst itself into existence, with its words burning well on their way out. Unabashedly and without warning, the music demanded Tamino's attention and determined the course of his days, as it is now doing with fans around the world: after a fully sold-out run of album release performances for crowds of thousands abroad, Tamino is now preparing for his biggest US tour yet, followed by a trio of arena concerts in Turkey, and a sprawling series of Europe and UK shows that he has just announced for Fall 2025.

Produced by Tamino and longtime collaborator PJ Maertens, with co-production by Eric Heigle (Arcade Fire, Dawn Richard) and Alessandro Buccellati (Arlo Parks, SZA), and additional production by Chris Messina (Bon Iver, Big Red Machine), Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso) and Jo Francken, Every Dawn's a Mountain's writing process was unpredictable, while the album's recording mirrored the themes of displacement and impermanence that define many of these songs. Largely penned in his New York City apartment, some were captured in various hotel rooms when touring with Mitski, others were made in a New Orleans church or Brussels studio. Yet the end result is the most harmonious set of music that Tamino has ever created, strung together by the same sense of both honoring the past and letting go of it.

Combining his unforgettable three-octave vocal range with his guitar and Arabic oud, Every Dawn's a Mountain not only shows why Tamino has "the most extraordinary voice," as NPR Music proclaimed in a recent episode of All Songs Considered – but the ways he's using it to tell impassioned stories, harness a sound and share a vision that spans cultures and continents.

In addition to popping up at performances with Daniel Caesar and MustafaDavid Byrneand more in the past several months, fans have also spotted Tamino as the face of Hermès' new perfume, Terre D'Hermes Eau De Parfum Intense. Next, on March 27th, Tamino will begin an extensive North American tour, bringing the album to New York City's Brooklyn Steel, Los Angeles' Belasco, San Francisco's The Fillmore, two nights at Chicago's Thalia Hall and more this month and next, accompanied by some of the same musicians who played on the record. Then, his fall tour takes him back overseas, where he will headline nearly 20 shows that culminate in a run of three arenas in ParisAmsterdam and Brussels, in his native Belgium. On "Every Dawn's a Mountain"

“In rare, precious moments, songs can announce themselves, seemingly out of nowhere. These announcements feel like contractions of the heart and brain, and as a songwriter, you must learn how to recognize them so that the song that wants to be born can fully arrive. Any plans made prior to that moment need to be canceled until you've safely guided the song into existence.

The writing of 'Every Dawn's a Mountain' was just such a case. On a busy day full of planned meetings and dinners I briefly picked up the guitar in the morning, not anticipating I wouldn't let it go for the rest of the day. The chords and melodies came quite fast, but the lyrics needed more time and focus, so after about an hour of writing I canceled all my plans. Several hours later, except for some minor tweaks that I would make at a later stage, the song had assumed form.

About a week later I left on tour, where PJ (my sound engineer and long-time studio collaborator) recorded me playing the track in an Airbnb, with a setup constructed of cardboard boxes for lack of mic stands. The next day I woke up early and found him already awake in the kitchen, working on his computer. He had chopped up a sample of a Belgian choir singing an old polyphonic Flemish composition. Upon receiving the headphones and listening to what we'd recorded the night before, joined by those beautiful angelic voices of the choir, it moved me tremendously. That very recording with the addition of the sample became the foundation on which we built the rest of the arrangement.

Although 'Every Dawn's a Mountain' immediately felt like the perfect title for the song, it took several months before I started contemplating it as a title for the record. Most of my creative process, whether writing or recording, tends to be a work of (often laborious) revelation rather than carefully coloring in pre-drawn lines and figures. As the picture of the album became clearer by the day, 'Every Dawn's a Mountain' began to seem like the only right choice for a name. These words, in a way, express the essence of the album, supporting and overarching it in its simplicity and duality.”
