The Barr Brothers Unveil Anthemic Title Track From Forthcoming 'Queens Of The Breakers' (October 13/Secret City Records)

Today, NPR’s World Café is premiering the anthemic title track from ‘Queens of the Breakers,’ the forthcoming album by the Barr Brothers. This album, the band’s first in three years, will be released on October 13 on Secret City Records. The Barr Brothers are also thrilled to announce that they will join The War On Drugs for a run of UK and Europe dates in November, playing massive venues – this marks their second time touring with the band.  After the UK and European run, The Barr Brothers begin their North American tour, their biggest headlining tour to date. 

‘Queens of the Breakers’ takes its name from The Breakers, a Vanderbilt mansion perched atop Newport, Rhode Island’s rocky coastline. As teenagers, brothers Brad and Andrew Barr were part of a mischievous group of friends that would descend upon Newport dressed in their mothers’ clothing; the better to shock the tourists.  It's a vehicle for reflection: a tight group of friends that grew apart, now seen through a Terrence Malick 'Tree Of Life'-like haze.

The band also recently announced a surprise, one-night-only show in New York City taking place tonight at 7pm Eastern. This special pre-release concert is taking place in the intimate Rockwood Stage 2, and will feature the band playing some of the songs from ‘Queens of the Breakers’ publicly for the first time.

The Barr Brothers are in New York this afternoon as well, and will be performing a Paste Facebook Live session at 1pm Eastern. Paste previously featured the album’s first single “You Would Have To Lose Your Mind” as a Daily Dose in July, calling it “swirling, evolving…at once delicate and expansive.”
