The Iridium Launches Two New Series; Vernon Reid Presents Soul Guitar Sundays To Kick Off April 12 With "Captain" Kirk Douglas Of The Roots

Blue Door 1650 Offers Late-Night Sets For Only $5

Deemed a "guitar shrine" by The New York Times, and known around the world as The Home of Les Paul, The Iridium is looking to the future this Spring with the announcement of two new series that will welcome an exciting new class of musicians into the room Guitar World calls "the city's - if not the country's - home of the guitar."

Vernon Reid Presents Soul Guitar Sundays will feature artists and one-time musical events hand-picked and curated by the living legend and Living Colour lead guitarist. Reid said of the series, "I see Soul Guitar as a chance to present some of the most unique, entertaining and original guitar players of various styles, who have in common a quality of soul. They're gritty, honest, uncompromising, risk-taking, cool and hot." The monthly series' inaugural event will take place on Sunday, April 12 with "Captain" Kirk Douglas of The Roots and his outstanding band The Dust Rays. As the guitarist with The Roots, the beloved house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC, Douglas has developed a well-deserved reputation as a stellar and versatile player. There will be two sets at 8pm and 10pm. The second set will feature a discounted admission price of $5.

The second new series at the Iridium, Blue Door 1650, was soft-launched last month and offers late night sets at 10:30pm for a consistently affordable admission price of $5. The series was created as an opportunity for the club to expand its bookings in some unprecedented new directions, with initial installments drawing on a variety of musical cultures and genres from gypsy, manouche jazz to Brazilian music.

Owner of the Iridium Ron Sturm said of the club's newest ventures, "Excellence is in our DNA. We want to honor the past, present and future of the guitar by staying true to who we are and connecting with the innovative spirit of Les Paul."
