Marriage is full of ups and downs, but so often in music you only hear the highlights. Now, a new country duo is exposing the most authentic, unfiltered look at what marriage is really like. The Mizes — made up of married musicians Logan Mize and Jill Martin — debut with “Hitched Up,” a laugh-out-loud glimpse into life after the honeymoon. The song is available today (7.28) via Big Yellow Dog Music.

“We are so excited our first single is finally out,” say The Mizes. “We hope everyone can laugh along as we poke fun at the struggles of real life and marriage!”

On “Hitched Up,” Mize and Martin sing of a couple that is thinking twice about saying “I do,” turning the positive connotation of being married on its head with tongue-in-cheek comparisons like a ball to a chain and an old rusted plow. It’s a hilarious glimpse into marriage burnout that “recalls the funny-fight masterpieces created by Loretta & Conway, Porter & Dolly and George & Tammy” (MusicRow).

While Mize and Martin have performed and written music together for years, “Hitched Up” marks the first true joint outing for the pair. The song is a preview of new music to come from the duo in the coming months.

The pair grew up only 30 minutes from each other in Kansas and their paths had unknowingly crossed several times, but their love story didn't begin until they met as aspiring singer-songwriters in Nashville in 2008. After multiple introductions from mutual friends and several co-writes together, a flame sparked and the couple was engaged, busking on Nashville's Broadway for wedding money. After the wedding, Martin was a contestant on American Idol. On the day she was sent home from the show, she learned she was pregnant with their son Lincoln, and they moved back home to Kansas to raise him closer to family.
