The Pines' Hit Home On 'Above The Prairie' Out Today On Red House Records
"What Radiohead Might Sound Like If Driven By Wood And Steel Rather Than Ones And Zeros" - Popmatters
'Above The Prairie,' the first album in four years from Minneapolis by-way-of Iowa indie folk trio The Pines, is out today on Red House Records. The record explores the vast expanses around and above them, finding beauty in small towns, farms, buffalo skeletons and the array of stars that dot the sky. 'Above The Prairie' features collaborations with "the brightest lights of the Americana world" (Folk Alley), including Greg Brown, Pieta Brown, Iris DeMent and Bo Ramsey. The late poet and Native American activist John Trudell appears on the album's spoken word finale "Time Dreams." Democracy Now! debuted "Time Dreams" recently on their show and website.
Americana tastemaker outlet Folk Alley is hosting a stream of the album: http://www.folkalley.com/archives/001466.php
'Above The Prairie' was featured this week on WNYC and featured as Song of the Day today on The Current. The record is the #3 most added release this week on CMJ Triple A radio stations, and has been in regular rotation on Sirius XM's The Loft for nearly a month. The Pines just kicked off a US tour last week that will culminate with a hometown album release show March 18 at Minneapolis' 1,500-capacity First Avenue Mainroom.
