The Podcast “Helping Mothers Reclaim Their Identity"

In 2022, Blair Gyamfi and Morgan Taylor launched Moms Actually, a multi-platform sisterhood with a goal of helping other mothers feel understood through all personal parenting experiences despite the toxic expectations society has placed on women as mothers.

This week, Gyamfi and Taylor joined The Grio Weekly with Natasha S. Alford to discuss the important mission behind the platform that is "helping mothers reclaim their identity." The three discuss de-stigmatizing women's honesty and vulnerability, the impact of social media and unrealistic expectations it sets for mothers, why some moms struggle with self-worth, and much more.

Taylor and Gyamfi each share their personal experiences with motherhood, and how they are using those experiences to help other women become vulnerable about their own and, in turn, begin to change the narrative of open communication about women's experiences.

Morgan Taylor shares about:

  • Suffering with postpartum depression after giving birth to her third child
  • Why social media mommy bloggers felt unrelatable to her and how she seeks to change that through her own platform
  • Where the idea for Moms Actually came from and her goal of making other women feel understood

Blair Gymafi shares about:

  • Struggling to connect with her newborn baby girl until her daughter was a toddler
  • Feeling shame for her postpartum mental health struggles
  • How a Chrissy Teigan op-ed about postpartum anxiety helped her overcome it
  • Why it's important to be honest about your experiences in a world full of perfectly filtered posts

Season three of the Moms Actually podcast wrapped last month and featured guests including reality TV personality and actress Apryl Jones, Sephora Squad member and content creator Shay Nicole, psychologist and author Dr. Verlonda Jackson, and others.
