The Shacks are "Sun-Drenched & Intoxicating" (Pitchfork) on Debut Album, 'Haze,' Out Today
Release Show at Baby's All Right on April 4thToday, The Shacks release their new album 'Haze' - a "hypnotizing and sweet" (The FADER) debut statement that "brings a fresh sensibility to classic American sounds" (i-D) - on Big Crown Records. Produced and recorded in all-analog by The Shacks' Max Shrager and Big Crown co-founder Leon Michels (The Arcs, Lana Del Rey, Lady Gaga) in Shrager's Princeton, NJ, basement and Michels' Diamond Mine Studios in Queens, NY, the album shows The Shacks invoking the greats of French yé-yé, vintage R&B, psychedelic pop, and C86-era indie with a stylish, modern verve all their own.
'Haze' has garnered praise from Pitchfork, Billboard, Consequence Of Sound, and many more - see quotes below. Watch The Shacks soundtrack a man shaving on Williams Street Swap Shop.
Fronted by singer/bassist Shannon Wise (20) and guitarist Max Shrager (21) - and backed by the unwavering feel of drummer Ben Borchers and keyboardist Evan Heinze - The Shacks have quickly transformed from a pair of high school friends with an exhaustive expertise in musical obscurities into veterans of the road and studio. To kick off 2018, The Shacks were named an NPR Music Slingshot artist and toured the US and UK with Khruangbin, before playing SXSW showcases with NPR, Rachael Ray, Vinyl Me, Please, and more.
