This fall, The Sound of Us is delivering dozens of film festivals "a rousing ode to the healing power of music" (Harper's Bazaar). After winning the Movie That Matters Award during Cannes, and earning the Accolade Global Film Competition's Best of Show, the urgent new documentary has continued to garner acclaim across the country. In September, The Sound of Us made its US debut at BZN International Film Festival and hosted its Canadian premiere at Calgary International Film Festival, in addition to screening at Breckenridge and Vail Film Festivals, and taking home Best Feature Documentary and Best Director at Albuquerque Film & Music Experience (AFMX).
Coming up in October, The Sound of Us will introduce audiences at Portland Film Festival, Indianapolis' Heartland Film Festival, the Gary International Black Film Festival, Peachtree Village International Film Festival and Newport Beach Film Festto the meaning of music.

Directed by 12x Emmy-winner and Grammy-nominee Chris Gero, The Sound of Us was filmed in America, Australia, Canada, Italy and Japan, over the course of two months during the height of COVID-19. In between interviews and performances from the aforementioned artists, as well as Butch Walker, Dan Tepfer, Eric Whitacre, Hiromi, Jason Mraz, Pasek & Paul, PJ Morton, Will Wells and more, The Sound of Us unfolds as a series of nine stunning vignettes, illustrating music's universal, unstoppable ability to unite and inspire. From Project: Music Heals Us playing private concerts for hospital patients and prison inmates, to underserved children finding new types of families in music education, venues grappling with pandemic-spurred shutdowns, and Joel Thompson's riveting composition based on the final words of seven unarmed Black men before they were killed by police, The Sound of Us reveals the infinite ways in which music provides a universal language of hope, courage, grief and honesty - even in the most divided of times.
In a recent interview, Chris Gero told Rolling Stone, "The Sound of Us reminds us all that we are better together, and that music-making makes us all human and breaks down the walls we all create in life. This film demonstrates the simply remarkable goodness in people through music and I am honored to bring these stories to the world."
At Heartland this Friday, October 8th, Chris Gero will be joined by artist Grace Kelly for a special performance and post-show Q&A.
