UB40 Feat. Ali Campbell, Astro And Mickey Virtue Confirm First North American Tour In 8 Years
GRAMMY-nominated reggae pioneers will perform classic hits including "Red, Red Wine," "Kingston Town," "One in Ten" and moreIconic UK reggae/pop ensemble UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue have confirmed their first extensive North American tour in eight years. The band’s principle songwriter and venerable vocalist Ali Campbell, will be joined by exceedingly talented percussionist/trumpeter/vocalist Astro and outstanding keyboardist Mickey Virtue, all of whom are founding members of the original UB40. The trio (along with their seven-piece band) are about to embark on a flurry of concert dates in Europe and will kick off their North American run on September 19 in Chicago before hitting major markets all over the US including New York City, Washington, DC, San Diego and Dallas. Tickets go on sale beginning Friday, March 20th through http://www.ub40.org.
Known for their exuberant stage show, UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, Astro and Mickey Virtue will tantalize fans by performing all the hits that catapulted them to the forefront of the ubiquitous musical landscape including “Red, Red Wine,” “(I Can’t Help) Falling In Love,” “Kingston Town,” “One In Ten” and “Food For Thought.” In a recent live review of their performance at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, DublinConcerts.ie said “the vocalists were pitch-perfect, the musicians were flawless, they held the crowd throughout the entire performance and the atmosphere was phenomenal.” Go here to watch the band’s stellar performance on Later…with Jools Holland showcasing Campbell’s “instantly recognizable voice” (Daily Mail).
Concertgoers will also be treated to new material from the band’s latest album release ‘Silhouette.’ Recorded in London’s renowned RAK Studios, ‘Silhouette’ is an inspired mix of freshly-minted new songs and sparkling, reggaefied cover versions of classics by The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Chi-Lites and others. The track Silhouette was originally a 1957 hit for the American doo-wop group The Rays, though this new, yearning take, owes more to an early 1970s version by the crown prince of reggae, the late, great Dennis Brown. Check out the lyric video for the new single here.
Formed in 1979, UB40 helped define reggae music for a generation. The pioneering reggae troupe topped the UK singles chart on three occasions, earned multiple Grammy nominations and sold 70 million records as they took their smooth yet rootsy musical blend to all corners of the globe.
