Vietnamese Entrepreneur, Filmmaker, Activist Sahra Nguyen Breaks Ground With Her Socially Conscious Company, Nguyen Coffee Supply

Media Accolades Continue, With Nguyen’s “Game Changer” Food & Wine Cover

(New York, NY) July 28, 2021— Sahra Nguyen, Founder & CEO of Nguyen Coffee Supply, is successfully transforming coffee culture with a focus on diversity, inclusion and sustainability.  Launched in 2018 in Brooklyn, NY, Nguyen Coffee Supply is the first specialty coffee company in the U.S to celebrate, champion and import beans directly from family-owned coffee farmers in Vietnam—the second largest coffee producer in the world—roasting ‘single-origin’ clean and organic beans prized by coffee connoisseurs. The daughter of Vietnamese refugees, this 34 year old entrepreneur is helping to bridge communities by promoting cultural awareness and sharing stories of the underrepresented.

Nguyen’s accomplishments have been widely recognized by her industry and the media; she currently appears on the July cover of Food & Wine magazine as one of “25 Game Changers.” Nguyen has been featured in national media including the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Forbes, Fortune, CNN, VICE and Imbibe magazine—which named her one of the 75 people and places shaping the way you drink. She was also honored with a 2019 StarChefs Rising Star Award for Roaster.  Her explosive brand and company mission has caught the attention of everyone from Mindy Kaling to Tory Burch, including drinking coffee with Drew Barrymore on her nationally televised show.

Another outlet for Nguyen’s love of storytelling and social activism has been film. She is an award-winning filmmaker who has created documentaries including “Maker’s Lane,” a 2015 web series about Asian-American entrepreneurs across the country that evolved into a digital series for NBC News entitled “Self-Starters.” Her 2016 series “Deported”---also on NBC News---covered the grassroots fight to end deportation of Cambodian-Americans from the U.S. Nguyen also examined the Southeast Asia Resource Center’s role in its community in the 2019 documentary “Made by Refugees: 40 Years of SEARAC.” She won the 2018 NAMIC Vision Award for Best Digital Media for “Deported” and was nominated for the EPPY Award and LA Press Club Awards for “Self-Starters.”

A lifelong activist, Nguyen has been using her business platform to combat anti-Asian hate crimes and support the Asian community. In 2020, she started the Undocu Workers Fund with partner RAISE, which raised funds to support undocumented workers in NYC. In 2019, her company became an inaugural member of the International Women’s Coffee Association’s Vietnam (IWCA VN) chapter. IWCA promotes gender equality and socio-economic advancement for women in the coffee industry, including additional training and scholarships for girls in Vietnamese villages. Nguyen Coffee Supply’s Instagram feed chronicles the range of Nguyen’s social activism and draws attention to unrecognized areas of inequality. Recently, the company donated a portion of sales to successfully plant 1,000 new coffee trees with the IWCA VN network of women farmers.

On August 14 and 15 from 11am-2pm, Nguyen will appear in a pop-up meet & greet at the Taiwanese Win Son Bakery in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, alongside fellow StarChef Rising Star Trigg Brown. The event provides an opportunity to learn about Vietnamese coffee culture, its robusta beans, its eco-friendly, traditional stainless steel slow-drip brew tool, the Phin Filter, and the wide variety of brewing styles--from cà phê sữa đá to espresso to cold brew.

Nguyen Coffee Supply ships to customers in all 50 states and internationally to Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Singapore, UK  and is available in restaurants and cafés in New York City, Washington D.C., Seattle, Kansas City and more.  Nguyen Coffee Supply can be enjoyed in a wide array of styles including—including the traditional   cà phê sữa đá (Vietnamese coffee with sweetened condensed milk & ice)  as well as the pour over, chemex, french press, drip, espresso and more.
