Waylon Payne shares his new “Sins of the Father” music video, out today (3.3). It’s the first music video from his critically acclaimed ‘Blue Eyes, The Harlot, The Queer, The Pusher & Me’ album and is a symbolic representation of the addiction, family turbulence and pain he’s faced in his lifetime.

Inspired by his complex relationship with father Jody Payne (Willie Nelson’s longtime guitarist), the video is a “cinematic masterpiece” (PEOPLE) and features images of Payne being tied to a chair, tied to railroad tracks and hanging upside down in a straight jacket — all as a metaphor for the painstaking hold addiction has had on his life. Later in the video, he breaks free from the bonds as a visual representation of the day he took his last drug thanks to his best friend’s son.

“[The video] is healing,” says Payne. "I think that nothing happens in life until you're able to sort through your stuff."
