Singer-songwriter and country music maverick Wesko honors the music he grew up on with his new song “By Way Of Alabama,” out today (9.18) via Warner Records. With nods to Alabama, John Prine, Dolly Parton and more, the road-warrior anthem follows a restless soul from town to town, picking up familiar signposts along the way before his heart pulls him to a stop just a couple turns off 65.

Produced by Ryan Gore (Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves) and written by Wesko alongside KK Johnson (BigXthaPlug, David Guetta), Sam Backoff (The Band Perry, Charles Esten) and Joe Kirkland (Dua Lipa, Maroon 5), “By Way Of Alabama” draws from the warmth of another era, with twangy guitars, keys and an unhurried rhythm framing Wesko’s singular vocals. The song feels instantly familiar, but unmistakably his own, weaving a love story through the roadtrip sounds of the genre greats who came before him.
“‘By Way of Alabama’ is my tribute to the country music I grew up on,” said Wesko.“It’s packed with nods to the artists and songs that shaped me—from Alabama and John Prine to Dolly and Kenny Rogers and Tracy Lawrence. More than anything, it’s just a fun country song, and I had an absolute blast writing and recording it.”
The song previews his forthcoming Warner Records debut and follows his Familiar Spirits EP (May 2026), a stripped-back four-song collection that put his lived-in storytelling front and center and earned praise from All Country News for its “fearless sense of honesty that feels increasingly rare in modern songwriting.” Raised outside the swamps of eastern North Carolina, Wesko brings a blue-collar edge and a voice forged outside the mainstream, with a sound shaped as much by Eric Church and Jason Isbell as it is The Beatles and Alice In Chains.
