Chad Lawson invites you “to hold the stars in the palm of your hand.” The world-renowned pianist’s new single, out today, meditates on the complex relationship between love and loss, success and failure, joy and grief. With a free-flowing, cascading melody that hints at Lawson’s extensive background in jazz and a welcoming sense of hopeful melancholy, “to hold the stars in the palm of your hand” is a musical appreciation for the journey of life and the power in letting go. The song reveals the graceful fluidity of Lawson’s artistry, ultimately creating a safe space for listeners to insert their own memories and experiences. After years of studying the neurological effects of calming music, box breathing, and transcendental meditation, Lawson is forging a powerful new pathway for healing with the piano as his music transcends both genre and time.

“to hold the stars in your hand

you must first reach for the sky.

and when you finally grasp them tight,

don't be afraid to let them go.

for it is only then that you will truly understand

the beauty of the night.”

- Chad Lawson

Lawson’s latest single arrives three weeks before his forthcoming irreplaceable EP. Set for release on May 13, the lush four-track collection was composed during a transformative period that found Lawson mourning the death of his beloved father. A self-described “extreme empath by nature,” Lawson hopes irreplaceablewill help listeners find their inner resilience through life’s most devastating moments, just as it did for him. His fingers brush across the canvas of emotions as his breathtaking melodies aim to settle the mind and impact the heart. The EP was brought to life at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, where he also recorded his 2020 Decca debut You Finally Knew (whose standout track “Stay” held steady in the top 25 on the Billboard Classical chart for 80 consecutive weeks). While embodying an understated elegance that allows a tremendous depth of feeling to shine through every moment, irreplaceable establishes Lawson as an essential new voice exploring the intersection of music and wellness while modernizing the solo piano for the streaming age.
