“Not resting on his laurels, Wyclef is already ensuring the future has plenty to talk about.” - Genius
Friday, May 29 - Today, GRAMMY Award-winning artist, producer, and composer Wyclef Jean releases new single “Mr. October” Featuring G Herbo. This is the first offering off his upcoming album ‘Clef Notes’ via Megaforce and The Orchard. A sample of what’s to come, the track is a return to the multi-genre master’s hip-hop roots. Opening with a warm guitar riff, Wyclef pulls us into a nostalgic haze, guiding us on a trip down memory lane as he recalls that rap battling wasn’t a hobby, it was survival. When he first came to the United States from Haiti, “I had to learn how to speak English for self defense.”
His upcoming album ‘Clef Notes,’ is Volume One of his seven album project Quantum Leap. The album marks a reawakening rooted in his Hip-Hop genesis while reaching far beyond its confines. With features from lifelong collaborators and new, he creates a bridge, drawing inspiration from today's rising Hip-Hop visionaries. This album is the beginning of Wyclef Jean’s Quantum Leap, both sonically and spiritually. A reflection on what made him the artist he is today. Read more in the LA Times and Genius.
Wyclef shared “G Herbo represents the voice of a generation. We’re living in an era where we must amplify reform over violence and believe in the possibility of a better future for underserved communities.”
“Working with Wyclef who I call ‘Unc’ now inspired me to focus on delivery,” says G Herbo. “I can’t just get on a song with him and not focus on bars and punch lines. It’s always been a dream of mine to work with him, and now we’re on song number two, so I must be doing something right.”
This ambitious Quantum Leap project will see the prolific songwriter, producer and performer release albums consecutively over the next year. Each album has 7 tracks, narrowing in on a genre he has mastered over his three decade and counting career. Starting at his genesis with Hip-Hop, and leaping forward into Jazz, Country, Reggae, R&B, Gospel, celebrating global beats like Haitian Kompa, Rara Jazz and beyond. Much like his globally celebrated and 3x Grammy Nominated debut album The Carnival. Just a year ahead of the 30th anniversary of the album’s anniversary, Wyclef’s indelible impact on the music industry continues to be a force. The Carnival is widely regarded as an early triumph of a more global hip-hop sound. Before cross-cultural fusion became commonplace as it is today, Wyclef seamlessly blended Latin, Caribbean, Country and Folk influences into a single groundbreaking record.

This winter also marked a milestone anniversary for the Fugees seminal album The Score, celebrating 30 years of one of the most influential and groundbreaking hip-hop albums of all time. This year has also seen Wyclef and his Fugees co-founder Ms. Lauryn Hill reunited in their incomparable creative union. This year they’ve performed together on The GRAMMY Awards, SNL50, KOKO London, and soon on June 6th in Rio at Global Citizen Live, with much more to come.
As a composer, writer and producer his legacy is easily tracked among his countless hits for legends like Shakira, Whitney Houston, Santana, Destiny's Child, Mary J. Blige, Lil Wayne, T.I., Fugees and many more. His ability to both transcend and blend global genres and masterful use of instrumentation make him a timeless creator even among his contemporaries. In the past year alone he's been sampled by Ayra Starr, will.i.am, DJ Mustard, Stormzy, Central Cee, G Herbo and more. Herbo’s recent hit “Emergency” stars Wyclef while sampling his hit “911” from his second solo album The Ecleftic.
