Your Old Droog Announces New Album Dump Yod: Krutoy Edition (Out December 4)

Your Old Droog has announced that his new album Dump YOD: Krutoy Edition will be released on December 4. While Droog’s last album Jewelry was about claiming his Jewish heritage, the new project finds YOD embracing his Ukrainian and Eastern European roots. Rooted in raw, minimalist production, Dump YOD: Krutoy Edition is a perfect showcase for Your Old Droog’s transcendent lyrical skills and vivid storytelling, imbued with the Ukraine-born emcee’s reflections on growing up in Brooklyn as a Russian-speaking immigrant. With song titles like “Kazakhstan”, “Matryoshka” and “Uzbekistan”, old world samples and one track rapped entirely in Russian, the thematic focus is clear.

Along with the album announcement, Your Old Droog has shared the new single “Pravda.” The posse cut boasts a stacked lineup of features including Black Thought, El-P, Mach-Hommy, and Tha God Fahim.

“This track is more of a quarantine freestyle session than anything that remotely resembles standard song structure. It’s the first thing I recorded in isolation and the rest of the features just naturally unfolded.” - Your Old Droog

Last week, Your Old Droog dropped “Ukraine,” which was praised by Stereogum (“Even when he’s talking about fitting in nowhere, this guy can really, really rap”), OkayPlayer, Brooklyn Vegan and more. Dump YOD: Krutoy Edition is executive produced by Mach-Hommy and Tha God Fahim. Other features on the record include heavyweights like the aforementioned El-P (Run The Jewels), Black Thought (The Roots), Mach-Hommy, Tha God Fahim, Phonte (Little Brother), and Billy Woods.

Dump YOD: Krutoy Edition is Droog’s first album release of the year. The prolific MC released a staggering three LPs in 2019, totaling nearly 40 tracks. The run of releases included Jewelry, a surprise drop last December that appeared on the NY Times’ Playlist and featured MF DOOM, Mach-Hommy and Matisyahu, was executive produced by Mach-Hommy, and featured beats from Quelle Chris, Edan, Tha God Fahim, and Preservation. Droog was also featured on Preservation’s Eastern Medicine, Western Illness release in May.

Your Old Droog is one of the most exciting young artists in music today. After spending years working on his craft, Droog finally set the internet ablaze in 2014, releasing a mysterious self-titled project so impressive that certain listeners were literally convinced that he was one of the best to ever do it. YOD has long since cleared up rumors of who released the mysterious classic, stepping out from the shadows in interviews with outlets like The New Yorker, SPIN, The Village Voice, SiriusXM, and more. His debut was named one of the top albums of the year by both The New York Times and Rolling Stone.

The album is now available for pre-order in digital and various physical formats. Deluxe vinyl editions include a blue and yellow Ukrainian flag-colored vinyl, Russian nesting dolls and album artwork “propaganda” posters. A limited edition 7-inch printed on x-ray film is also available, inspired by what is known as “Bone Music” or “X-Ray Music,” popular music etched into used X-rays that were made to smuggle banned music into the Soviet Union.
