Zac Brown’s Camp Southern Ground, Inc. Partners with Atlanta Steeplechase as New Beneficiary

46th Anniversary Brings New Events To A Georgia Tradition

ATLANTA (February 10, 2011). The Atlanta Steeplechase celebrates its 46th year by partnering with a new beneficiary – Camp Southern Ground, Inc. Race day for 2011 is Saturday, April 16th.

Camp Southern Ground’s (www.campsouthernground.org) mission is “to operate a camp to allow children to overcome academic, social and emotional difficulties so they may reach their full potential by providing them with the opportunity and tools necessary to become prominent leaders in our society and to achieve excellence in all facets of their lives.” The passion project of GRAMMY®-Award winning musician Zac Brown, Camp Southern Ground will offer a destination for youth of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, race, and religion to come together to learn life skills and teamwork in a positive, healthy, and organic environment.

"I've worked in children's camps my entire life, and childhood development has always been an important issue for me, so Camp Southern Ground was a natural progression" said Zac Brown, Camp Southern Ground founder. "Knowing that an organization as esteemed as the Atlanta Steeplechase has decided to support the efforts of a project so near and dear to my heart is amazing. The team at Camp Southern Ground is grateful to be partnering with Atlanta Steeplechase and we look forward to making all of our supporters proud of the work we're doing towards changing children's lives."

Atlanta Steeplechase Executive Director Jean Bird comments, “We are thrilled to have Camp Southern Ground, Inc. join the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine as one of our beneficiaries. Partnering with this child-focused charity is where the heart of the Steeplechase lies – these children are an integral part of our community and with the support of our Atlanta Steeplechase fans we hope to be able to contribute greatly to the growth of the camp.”

Held on 400 acres of beautiful countryside on the banks of the Etowah River – The Atlanta Steeplechase is Atlanta society’s version of Town and Country. Picture 25,000 people spending the day the old fashioned way: socializing with friends, eating bar-b-que, drinking ice cold beverages and cheering on their favorite horse as he gallops down the back stretch. A day for Georgians to enjoy each other and the traditions of the South. The Steeplechase is a day filled with thrilling horse races, hat contests, tent contests, a foxhound parade, skydivers, children’s activities, terrier races, frisbee dogs, shopping, people watching and so much more. This year, Nic Cowan, an artist signed to Zac Brown's label Southern Ground Artist, Inc. will perform the national anthem for eager fans.

Also new for 2011 is the Radio Disney Street Team who will be in the Kids Corral from 10:30-12:30 on race day as well as the return of the Fox Hunter Relay. Preceding the race, Poppy’s of Atlanta and East Andrews will host the annual Saddle Up Soiree and Shopping Event on March 24th where patrons can shop and dine and 20% of the proceeds from the evening will benefit the Atlanta Steeplechase charities. Also benefiting the charities will be a new event on March 31st and April 1st, where Woo Skincare and Cosmetics will host “The Face of Steeplechase.” Fans can mention “Atlanta Steeplechase” when booking their complimentary makeovers and 10% of sales from both days will be donated to the Atlanta Steeplechase.

Atlanta Steeplechase fans can enjoy the race many different ways:

Sponsor Hill – this is our most exclusive area – one can join as a sponsor or sponsor guest, picnic box holder, guarantor or the Chairman’s Tent. This prestigious area sits on

top of the hill closest to the finish line overlooking the entire racetrack.

Tents on the Turn – the best people watching at the race – corporate and social groups line the backstretch with colorful tents, décor, music, whatever they can dream up to make the day memorable.

The Infield – this is where the action is! Everyone is invited to the infield for the Southern National disc dog competition, rock climbing, sky divers, petting zoo, terrier races, tailgating, vendor tents and our new Xfinity Kid’s Corral.

The Atlanta Steeplechase is a throwback to Southern tradition of family, friends and celebration. As wonderful as the day is – the ultimate goal is to give back to the community – our beneficiaries, Camp Southern Ground, Inc. and The University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
