Zev Feldman Celebrates Record Store Day Black Friday With Four Historic Releases From Bad Brains, Bill Evans, Yusef Lateef, And B.B. King

Groundbreaking recordings spanning punk, jazz, blues, and beyond — all restored, previously unreleased, and arriving Nov. 28 on vinyl, with CD editions out Dec. 5

Record Store Day Black Friday 2025 will feature an unprecedented slate of archival treasures from award-winning producer and “Jazz Detective” (New Yorker) Zev Feldman. After the success of his first country release earlier this year — a critically acclaimed Patsy Cline collection that The Washington Post praised as “a new window into the voice that defined country music” — Feldman continues to broaden his archival reach. On November 28, he returns with six releases across his various imprints, including his first jaunt into the world of punk with a ferocious early live set from Bad Brains that predates their debut studio album and his 15th Bill Evans release (watch/see more on Bill Evans here). This slate reflects Feldman’s career-long mission to uncover and share essential, never-before-heard music across genres.

This Black Friday, four standout titles highlight the depth and diversity of Feldman’s curatorial vision. You can find full press releases for each title here.

Bad Brains – Live at the Bayou (Time Traveler Recordings)

A ferocious two-LP set capturing Washington, D.C.’s pioneering punk band in their earliest officially released concerts (1980–81). With classics like “Pay to Cum,” “Banned in D.C.,” and “Sailin’ On,” the release captures the urgency of a band that defined East Coast hardcore and influenced generations to come.

Bill Evans – Portraits at the Penthouse: Live in Seattle (Resonance Records)

Previously unissued May 1966 radio broadcasts from The Penthouse club in Seattle, marking the earliest known recordings of Evans with bassist Eddie Gomez and one of the only documents with drummer Joe Hunt. Featuring repertoire including “How My Heart Sings,” “Nardis,” and “’Round Midnight,” the deluxe package includes essays by Marc Myers, remembrances from trio members, and an appreciation from piano legend Bob James.

Yusef Lateef – Golden Flower: Live in Sweden (Elemental Music)

Unearthed 1967 studio and 1972 concert recordings for Swedish Radio capture Lateef’s boundless musical spirit and his concept of “autophysiopsychic” sound. Supported by Albert “Tootie” Heath, Lars Sjösten, Kenny Barron, Palle Danielsson, and Bob Cunningham, the release spans blues, R&B, and exploratory originals. Essays by Herb Boyd, Chico Freeman, Jeff Coffin, and Charlie Apicella deepen the portrait of the visionary saxophonist-flutist.

B.B. King – Broadcasting the Blues: Live from Germany & Sweden (Time Traveler Recordings)

Two powerful European concerts from 1968 and 1973, licensed from Reelin’ In The Years Productions, showcase the King of the Blues at the height of his powers. Featuring Sonny Freeman and the Kingpins, with expanded horn sections in Stockholm, the collection includes commentary from journalist Jean Buzelin, producers David Peck and Eric Kulberg, and a heartfelt remembrance by Derek Trucks. The album was executive produced by TBC Group LLC/Vassal Benford on behalf of the B.B. King Music Company.

“These releases embody why I do what I do,” says Feldman. “Whether it’s punk, jazz, or blues, the goal is the same — to bring important, historic performances to light so that they can inspire new generations. Record Store Day is the perfect stage for this celebration of musical legacies.”

All four projects have been fully restored and mastered by leading engineers, pressed on 180-gram vinyl for Nov. 28 release, and will be available on CD Dec. 5. Together, these releases represent a sweeping journey through American music history — from the explosive punk revolution of Bad Brains, to the introspective genius of Bill Evans, to the spiritual breadth of Yusef Lateef, to the soulful fire of B.B. King.
