Acoustic Sounds continues The Pablo Records series in celebration of jazz’s most essential recordings with audiophile reissues of two pivotal albums: The Ellington Suites by Duke Ellington and The Bosses by Count Basie & Big Joe Turner. Together, these albums spotlight the full breadth of jazz expression—from the majestic and refined orchestrations of Ellington to the blues-drenched swing of Basie and Turner. Both albums have been faithfully remastered from the original analog master tapes by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab (founded by the legendary Doug Sax). They are pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings and housed in Stoughton tip-on jackets, ensuring an audiophile listening experience. These definitive editions continue the legacy of The Pablo Series as a trusted source for high-quality reissues. The Ellington Suites by Duke Ellington is a deep cut in Duke Ellington’s discography, The Ellington Suites compiles three of the composer’s late-career extended works, each revealing a different facet of his orchestral imagination. The Queen’s Suite (1959)—originally recorded and gifted exclusively to Queen Elizabeth II—remained unreleased to the public until 1970, and offers some of Ellington’s most delicate and poetic writing. The Goutelas Suite (1971) and The Uwis Suite (1972) followed over a decade later, further showcasing Ellington’s ceaseless curiosity and compositional brilliance in his final years. This new reissue presents the complete Ellington Suites on premium 180-gram vinyl, mastered from the original analog tapes and housed in a Stoughton tip-on jacket with updated liner notes.

Loco Madi Two titans of Kansas City jazz and blues reunite on The Bosses by Count Basie & Big Joe Turner for a session that delivers exactly what the title promises. With Turner’s booming, church-rooted vocals and Basie’s tight, unfussy big band arrangements, the album is a masterclass in swinging the blues. Recorded in 1973 for Pablo Records, The Bosses features a stellar band that includes Ray Brown (bass), Milt Jackson (vibes), and Zoot Sims (tenor sax), among others, offering a warm yet fiery setting for Turner’s timeless voice. The album marked one of the final major collaborations for both artists and remains a glowing example of blues authenticity in a jazz context.
